Implemented Changes:

    Many factors combined to put this project into a holding pattern.  Among which was Grandfather's fight with, and loss to, cancer.

March 2007
    The data hard drive of Host Ultra Free Hosting failed, all data stored on it was lost.  There was no backups for free hosting (you get what you pay for...).  This gives me the opportunity to re-do some of the pages from scratch, and re-work some of the other pages.

    Received notice of changes from Netscape Web Sites, "We're happy to announce the successful launch of Netscape My Webpage, the new homepage building product on Netscape.com that offers three easy to use tools, lots of space and more graphics for free! Unfortunately, at the same time, we have to say good-bye to Netscape Web Sites."
    Good and bad - good in that I now have 20 Mbytes of dedicated space, bad in that I just finished arranging things from the Homestead site, that now I have to move some more.
    Ah, well - what else is a weekend for, eh?  Since I was already scrambling to re-arrange due to Homestead's actions, what better time than to re-arrange everything as I want them...

    Received notice that Homestead will no longer be supporting/hosting free websites.  So, after a few months of concentrating on the USS Samuel Gompers site, I'm going to be scrambling to farm the pages out to the AT&T and Netscape areas that I have.

    Alrighty, finished transcription of both the DANFS entries and the information for USS Manila Bay.  Made a few changes in the pages to reduce the size of some of the .html files.

    On a whim, I visited the Base Library, and raided the Dictionary of American Navy Fighting Ships collection (made copies - 10¢ each for 17 pages).  I intend to transcript the entries of all the ships I have pages for - I found that some entries that I had acquired elsewhere had errors.  Updates are going to be alphabetical, and Anzio (CVE-57) is the first completed.

    I've been in contact with the Reunion coordinator for Manila Bay (CVE-61), and have received a photo (I've already scanned it and updated the page) - as well as a copy of the deck log and a few articles.  I've got some typing to get done, for certain.  Maybe I'll get the bulk done this weekend, who knows.
    Man, I wish the Homestead site was FTP capable - uploading a single file at a time is a drag.

    Went back to using the thumbnails linked to larger pictures.  The savings in space wasn't as sufficient as I though it would be, and since I now can expand out to other websites, if I need to, I can rearrange things later.  So, now the pages will load faster, and the pictures will take a wee bit.

    Due to circumstances beyond someone else's control, I became webmaster of the USS Samuel Gompers website (http://www.usssamuelgompers.com) .  Right now, it's supposed to be short-term, 6 to 8 months.

    The home page was going to be moved due to Juno's implementation of new rates that are three times what I was originally paying ($9.95 per month).  Juno wanted to start charging $29.95 a month for "Heavy Users".  Attempts to get a definition of just what constituted "Heavy User" had little results - as it stood, I used less than 100 hours a month with Juno...  and now they advertise 250 free hours the first month, and $9.95 a month thereafter.  AT&T only wanted $14.95 for up to 150 hours a month, so that's where I went.  I'll still use Juno's free E-Mail service, but that's it...
    So, since I already had a membership with Netscape, I thought to hub myself there, and branch to the two AT&T directories.  My intention was to keep mostly the family stuff on the Netscape site, and the military stuff over on AT&T.
    However, it seems that I am still allowed the website located with Homestead, so for the moment I will keep it up, and establish an Index Page on AT&T for each of the e-mail accounts I now have, as well as one on Netscape, then expand from there when I need the space.

    Welcome to the new millennium!  Added some new pictures to the Humor page.

    Discovered that I could save some space on the server by constraining picture size, and not need a "thumbnail" picture to link to the larger one.  So, since I didn't have to work today, I spent a few hours updating pages to this format, and ended up saving a little of about one Mbyte of space.  The drawback to this is that it takes a bit longer to fully load the pages, but since I'm not running a gallery for lots of people, I think that problem is minimal.  I may end up changing my mind later, but I'm more concerned with the space right now.
    Added pictures to Jimmy's, Bob's, Christina's, and Marie's pages.  (Save some space, loose some space...)

    Changed around my configuration yet again to include a Log of Changes (this page) and a Site Index.  The home page is now basically the Welcome to this site.  I've made some changes to all pages reflecting the new links - but will not mark the pages as changed this date unless I added something else.     Re-geared the index so I don't have to change each page if I add a page, just something to make things easier on myself.  8)
    Also made some minor changes here and there on other pages, mostly removing the old indexes.  Added a new page (Navy Terms, Phrases, & Trivia).

    Reconfiguring some files on the server to different directories (to help keep some things straight for me), and some minor changes to other pages.

    Changed home page picture to smaller resolution and linked it to the larger one to cut down loading time for the page.  Fixed various links that I had "Oops!" on.  Added links to new HTLM files (Long Surname, Class of 1981).  Added some pictures to the Military link (Ribbons for awards, and links to pictures of Medals).

    Expanded the pages within - taken to doing the HTML forms at home, and importing them to my Juno site.  Now I can show off various pictures of ships and such.  Added a Family Page, Military Awards Page, and some other items.  I figure I have 16 Mbytes to use, I might as well have some fun.
