We Know That You’re Gone

There’s now a presence missing
From within the family home.
The front television is silent.
And Grandpa’s in back – alone.

His companion of so many years,
His friend – his lover – his wife,
Exists now only in memory;
She’s beyond all mortal strife.

But Grandpa won’t lack for company
For around him his family groups;
His daughter and son, grandchildren,
And great-grandchildren in troops.

But even if it should come to happen
That all are out and scurrying,
He can still count on Yancy, his cat,
To sit on his lap – purring.

Yes, Grandma – we know you’re gone.
We’ve something missing from our souls.
You’ve done so much – meant so much –
For us, your absence has left a hole.

But losses are a part of life, and
The rawness does eventually subside.
Your loss will be a part of us,
But in memories we keep you inside.

We all miss you in different ways,
No one way being the best.
But we all know that you have earned
Your just and eternal rest.

Beloved

She was a mother,
She was a friend
She was a lover
Til the very end

She was your mentor
Your pillar of strength
She was your sunshine
On a sad and rainy day

She was a grandma
A great one at that
She had a smile
No one could out last

She is your mother
She is your friend
She is your lover
Even after the end.

She looks upon us
In Heaven with God
And though we can't see her
Her spirit lives on
