PREPARING FOR THE TOURNAMENT
WHAT IS THE TOURNAMENT? March 14, 2001
After Cell's shocking proposition, Vegeta and Krillin arrive back on the island where Trunks is. After the three decide to prepare and fight Cell in the tournament, Android 16 says that he will fight as well, but he will need some repairs. Trunks doesn't trust him, but Krillin is able to convince the others that 16 is one of the good guys..
Back at Bulma's house, Bulma just got back from Kame's and has brought along Master Roshi, Yamcha, Chaotzu, and the others. The group then stays glued to the TV, waiting for Cell to announce the tournaments location.
Meanwhile, Cell has begun constructing the ring for the tournament. It seems he will soon be ready, so the Z fighters better hurry up and prepare!
THE DOOMSDAY BROADCAST March 15, 2001
After constructing the ring for the tournament, Cell heads to a nearby town to find a TV station to broadcast his challenge. The Z fighters are all gathered around a TV at Bulma's house and hear the report. Vegeta immediately goes for his battle gear, ready to re-enter the Time Chamber once Goku is finished. Trunks tells him he'll go with him.
Back in the Time Chamber, Gohan's time appears to be up, because Chi-Chi just walked in! She goes in and accuses Goku of being in a gang and then tells him he will be leaving and hitting the books, while Piccolo stands in the back and apologizes for not being able to stop her. Chi-Chi is about to give Gohan a major tongue lashing, when Cell arrives! One slap kills Chi-Chi, and a 5 second battle ensues before Piccolo is down for the count! Angered by his friends deaths, Gohan screams…
…And is woke up by Goku. The young Saiyan had just had a fever, and it had finally broken. The two then go back to sleep.
NO WORRIES HERE March 20, 2001
After deciding to spend the next nine days training on the outside world, Gohan and Goku go to visit the rest of the gang. After taking Chi-Chi home, Goku, Gohan, and Krillin settle down for some R and R. Not the greatest training schedule right now, but Goku doesn't seem too concerned.
A GIRL NAMED LIME March 21, 2001
Nothing much here, this episode was mainly used to reintroduce General Tao so he could be used in a few eps (see "The Puzzle of General Tao"). Anyhoo, Gohan's trying to find some groceries for his mom when he stumbles across a crooked buisness man who is building a shelter to protect the town's citizens (at least what's left of them) from Cell, then forcing them to be slaves to live there. A young girl named Lime and her grandfather tell Gohan what they believe and Gohan and Lime go to check it out. While there, Lime makes them all believe Cell is coming and the two are captured. Lime's grandfather shows up and does battle with General Tao, who's overseeing the construction. Tao is about to kill Lime's grandfather when Gohan interferes. Tao flees when he realizes that Gohan is Goku's son, and Gohan destroys the towns shelter, saying that if he could destroy it that easily, it would be nothing to Cell.
MEMORIES OF GOHAN March 22, 2001
It looks like Goku, Gohan, and Krillin have some time to kill before the Cell Games ('cause it's so much more important to go fishing than to TRAIN TO SAVE THE WORLD!). Nothing much was done here, except a bunch of flashbacks on Gohan, showing his birth, the decision of his name, and the first time his powers appeared. Also, Chi Chi comes to terms with Gohan's clumsiness (and just in time for the world to be destroyed too!), saying that he can't help it simply because he's Goku's son.
The tournament's 8 days away, and the Army is sick of waiting! The military launches an attack on Cell, but they are all killed as Goku listens helplessly on his radio. He teleports to the Lookout and asks Piccolo if he and Kame can seperate, but Piccolo reveals it's a permanent process. Determined to get Dragon Balls to wish everyone back with, Goku attempts to use his Instant Transmission to find the Namek's new planet, but fails. He then "transmits" to King Kai's place so that he can get help.
After some witty banter, King Kai helps Goku find the Nameks. Goku "transmits" to the new Namek homeworld and asks if someone would like to be the new Guardian of Earth. Only one Namek agrees to: the young Dende! Goku and Dende head back to Earth, where Dende recreates the Dragon Balls. Goku then heads out to find the Balls, hoping to get them before the tournament.
THE PUZZLE OF GENERAL TAO March 28, 2001
Of all the "filler" episodes, this was one of the funniest. Goku's quest for the Dragon Balls leads him to run into General Tao (who he defeated in the old Dragon Ball series). Tao is also collecting the Dragon Balls, getting money for each one from a mobster. After Goku shows up with four of the Dragon Balls, Tao makes a deal with him: if he can solve the fighter's puzzle, Goku gets Tao's Dragon Balls, if he can't Tao gets Goku's 4 Dragon Balls. Goku agrees and Tao sneaks off with all the Dragon Balls. Once Goku solves the puzzle, he goes searching for Tao in the building, but can't find them, so he uses Instant Transmission to find Tao. He then departs with all 6 Dragon Balls.
