Aan - Men At Work, at Woolworth
Akshay Kumar is honest cop Hari Om Patnaik, who gets transferred to Mumbai's crime branch as DCP. He meets encounter specialist inspector APPA Kadam Naik (Shetty), sub-inspector Vikram Singh (Sinha), and constable Khaled Ansari (Rawal). This motley crew likes to take the law into its own hands: eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth. Think trigger-happy, and you will figure out why no one survives a Kadam encounter! Honest intentions take the back seat here as these cops succumb to a system rife with corruption, bribes, and the ubiquitous underworld nexus. Which brings us to industrialist Gautam Walia (Shroff), the crooked home minister Manik Rao (Mohan Agashe), and the man who's 'don' it all, Yusuf Pathan (Irrfan) - all hand-in-glove in search of more power and more money. It is a web of deceit, double-crossing, and debauchery. Though Kadam, Singh and Ansari try to weed out the troublemakers of Pathan's gang using the third degree, it is Patnaik who pushes them into toeing the line. They buy his 'Criminals are humans too' logic and 'It's not about the pay, but the honour', and see themselves transform into the moral police. Make that police with morals. But morality returns to haunt Patnaik when members of his own team fall victim to these troublemakers' bullets. When Walia's rival industrialist Ajit Pradhan (Milind Gunaji) is killed by Pathan's Goon Yeda, and when Pathan's henchmen shoot at Kadam's wife and child, the police force, including the commissioner (Om Puri), bays for blood.

The Big Lift, at Woolworth
This film is one of the best true-life adaptations of an historical event - The Berlin Airlift. It was made on location in Berlin with the full cooperation of the US Military who actually played the minor acting roles. The movie does an excellent job in portraying the bleak situation that the Berliners had to endure as a result of the Soviet blockade along with all the wrecked infrastructure of the city and black market trading, and Paul Douglas's character, an American sergeant who has no love for the Germans and goes out of his way to be rude and act like a true occupation taking revenge out on a former Nazi prison guard that tormented him while he was a prisoner. This film is probably the most realistic portrayal of the American soldier after the war when technically the US Army was an occupation force along with the British and French, whilst the portrayal of the German widow who really hated the Americans is equally realistic. The Big Lift does a good job in showing how ordinary soldiers and people can have divided loyalties and wrestle with the adverse situation that befell them in Berlin at the time.

Inspired by the 1950 visit of Isadora Duncan to Russia, Fokine took the timeless music of Frederic Chopin and created Chopiniana (later renamed Les Sylphides). This ballet celebrates the lyrical and poetic qualities of romantic ballet blanc to express the sublime nature of dance. Les Sylphides is one of the revolutionary ballets of the 20th Century. Firstly, to choreograph the works of the great masters, such as Chopin was unheard of. Of the many innovative works presented by this great impresario, this was his favourite. The Bolshoi Ballet Company under the direction of their chief choreographer Yuri Grigorvich, is one of the marvels of the ballet world. The word Bolshoi means 'big', which aptly describes this Company of over 200 artists, it's massive teaching staff and a school capable of training 1000 dancers providing a constant flow of new young talent. BOLSHOI SOLOISTS CLASSIQUE: This newly discovered film celebrates the mastery of the great Bolshoi stars, Nina Timofeyeva and Mikhail Lavrosky, who performed in the classic and elegant style of the Soviet ballet tradition.
