hold their stories to the end
Sung Chi (Bobby
Au-Yeung) is an official at the court responsible for crime and punishment, but
after the deaths of his two wives, he resigns his position and retires to Chung
Yuen Village to settle down to a quiet life.
Yuk Chu (Charmaine
Sheh) is a well known unlucky star in the village and the villagers run away
from her, as a result Chu works as a mortician (make up artist for dead people)
to distance herself from other people. Chu meets Chi in the mortuary and he
causes her to lose money, so she forces him to work for her to make up her
losses.
Chi is helping
Chu to dress a village girl's body when he finds that the girl is pregnant and
her death was suspicious. Chi and Chu's friend Chau Chi Lung ( Stephen Au Kam
Tong) becomes involved and Chi strives to investigate in order to clear his
name. The village girl's case causes the villagers to become suspicious of Chi's
identity . At this time, the village is met with a "Rainy Night Murderer" and
the evidence points to Chi as the culprit, with only Chu believing
that he is innocent. After the truth emerges, Chi and Chu's affections for each
other grow but Chi cannot forget the pain of losing his wives and because of his
tendency to bring bad luck to the people around him, he rejects Chu's advances.
Chu becomes scarred after an accident and Chi finally breaks through his
psychological barriers and proposes to Chu. As the two prepare for their wedding, Chu is accused
of murdering her stepmother and even though Chi finds the real murderer, Chu is
beaten to within an inch of her life. Chi once again reckons that it is his bad
luck affecting people around him, so he decides to leave....
