Saddened to hear of the death of young Icarus (Ryan Lewell), the son of his longtime friend Daedalus (Derek Payne), Hercules decides to journey to Euboea with Katrina of Thebes (Rebecca Hobbs), the scribe who relayed the tragic story. En route, he intercedes when a group of soldiers attacks a defenseless village and is surprised to learn that their main weapon, a giant crossbow, was created by Daedalus, a gifted inventor and scientist. Arriving at Euboea, Hercules and Katrina are forced to scale the castle wall when they are refused entrance by the guards at the city gates. Meanwhile, the unhappy Daedalus is struggling to finish his latest weapon of destruction for cruel King Nikolos (Frankie Stevens). When he is driven out into the street by a small explosion and fire in his makeshift lab, he is surprised to run into his old friend Hercules.
Almost immediately, Katrina begins to grill Daedalus about why he's been making weapons of mass destruction. When he becomes defensive, Hercules suspects that the King has been taking advantage of his friend's grief. Meanwhile, Daedalus' assistant Perdix (Stephen Walker), who is actually a spy for the King, races back to the castle to break the news about Hercules' arrival. Thrilled at the prospect of defeating the son of Zeus with his awesome new weapon called the Megalith, he extends an invitation for Hercules to join him at the palace and Hercules accepts. The meeting between the two men, who have clashed in battle before, is anything but cordial and Hercules warns the King not to get any ideas about regaining the power he once had before being exiled to Lexos. In the meantime, Katrina secretly peers into the lab to witness the testing of the deadly Megalith, but is soon discovered and taken away by the palace guards. When Hercules visits Daedalus a short while later and tells his friend that the weapons he has created are being used against defenseless women and children, the inventor is finally forced to question his work for the King.
Hercules then sets off to find Katrina, but comes face-to-face with the Megalith instead. Nikolos forces Katrina to stand by and watch as the giant contraption of stone fists and feet attempts to pulverize the son of Zeus. Just as all seems lost, Hercules manages to blind Perdix, who is piloting the Megalith, by flinging a vat of boiling liquid through the viewing hole of the man-made monster. He barrels into the Megalith as hard as he can and finally topples it to the ground. When Daedalus learns that the King has used his invention against Hercules, he is horrified to realize how completely he's been betrayed. He tries to leave, but Nikolos threatens him with death, insisting that he remain until the newer, even more powerful Megalith, which the inventor has been working on, is finished.
Daedalus tries to destroy his latest version of the super-weapon by setting off a fiery explosion in his lab, but the guards rush in to save the equipment, leaving the inventor semi-conscious on the floor. After Hercules rescues his friend, Daedalus confesses his terrible guilt over the death of his young son. He reveals that he warned Icarus not to fly too close to the sun, but feels responsible for the tragedy because the boy had asked him to come along that day and he had declined, choosing to work instead.
Back at the smoldering lab, King Nikolos himself climbs into the stone-and-steel body of the new Megalith. When he and Hercules finally meet, the demigod is drawn into an epic battle with the awesome mechanical monster, which uses a crystal to convert beams of sunlight into fireballs, which shoot out of the "mouth" of the helmet. The terrible weapon appears to be invincible until Hercules manages to throw another of Daedalus' inventions, an ancient version of Silly Putty, into the tiny dispersal nozzle from which the flames are shot. With no place for the air and fire mixture to go, the Megalith shudders and blows sky high with Nikolos trapped inside. In the end, Daedalus burns the last of his blueprints for weapons and vows to devote the rest of his life to inventing things that will help mankind as a fitting way of honoring his son's memory.
