A pair of brazen robbers loot the tomb of the great Egyptian pharoah Ishtar (Mark Newnham), making off with his mummified corpse. Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) is invited by the pharoah's descendant, the beautiful Princess Anuket (Galyn Gorg), Attica, where the thieves' trail has led. He arrives at the beginning of a joyous festival, but is soon set upon by a group of armed men dispatched by the princess, who is the eager for proof of his legendary strength. When Hercules passes her surprise test with flying colors, she demands his help in recovering the mummy. Angered by her arrogance and the fact that she owns and mistreats slaves, Hercules initially declines. But his attitude soon changes when he learns that disturbing the mummy has awakened its hunger to take human life, thus endangering all the inhabitants of Attica and the world. Unbeknownst to Hercules and Anuket, the evil high priest Sokar (John Watson) is also searching for the mummy, whose power he believes will help him execute his plan to marry Anuket and assume the Egyptian throne. Meanwhile, Salmoneus (Robert Trebor), always seeking a way to quick riches, buys the stolen ex-pharoah for his new House of Horrors at the Attica festival, unaware that it is beginning to stir.
Hercules and Anuket join forces to locate the mummy. Meanwhile, Sokar, who has wrested the mummy's all-powerful golden pendant known as the ankh from Salmoneus, prepares a trap for Hercules. That night, Salmoneus is scared out of his wits when the to mummy starts to chase him around his House of Horrors. Hercules and Anuket first learn of the mummy's whereabouts when Salmoneus bursts out of his "haunted house" and runs into them in the courtyard. Anuket warns them that if Sokar has the ankh, he has control over the mummy, and once it consumes the life force of a human being, there will be no stopping it. Heading off in pursuit of the creature, the three catch sight of the mummy as it enters the castle. Following it through a dreary maze of dark corridors and cobwebs, they venture ever deeper into the hidden recesses of the fortress. Soon, Anuket gets separated and disappears behind a moving wall. The mummy appears and attacks, but Hercules manages to send it tumbling down a seemingly bottomless pit. Sokar's trap, however, has already been sprung as an enormous wooden beam swings down from ceiling, knocking Hercules into the pit as well. When he lands, he finds himself sharing a dungeon cell with the menacing mummy.
Just as Hercules gets ready to fight, he turns to see Anuket on the other side of the bars, in the grasp of Sokar and his guards. Sokar holds up the ankh, proclaiming that he will become the new pharoah and Anuket, his bride. As soon as the evil high priest leaves, dragging Anuket with him, the mummy grabs the son of Zeus in a chokehold. Hercules, however, uses the mummy's head as a battering ram to part the bars just enough for him to climb out. Once outside, Hercules knocks Sokar unconscious with a flying mace and rescues Anuket before the mummy reappears to face him in an epic battle. After delivering what looks like a death blow to the son of Zeus, the mummy turns on Sokar and kills him, absorbing the priest's evil life force and expanding enormously in size and power. Realizing the monstrous mummy will now be unstoppable, Hercules grabs one end of its wrappings and gives a mighty yank, spinning the creature around so fast that it unravels, finally revealing a skeleton which clatters to the ground. Anuket, touched by the devotion of her servant Keb (Henry Vaeoso), who gave up his own life to protect her, tells Hercules she will return to Egypt and work to free all slaves.
