Claxon (Mark Wright), a perennial troublemaker who is standing trial for killing a young woman, has intimidated the potential witnesses so thoroughly that he is once again freed by the court. When the town "sheriff" Jaris (Colin Moy) confronts him, Claxon, backed by his "posse," prepares to wallop him. Fortunately, Jaris' old friend Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) shows up and helps Jaris defend himself. After the fight, Hercules sees Hades' sister Celesta (Belinda Waymouth), also known as "Death," gliding through the street. Despite the nature of her calling, Celesta is a benevolent goddess -- warm, serene, ethereal. She makes her way towards Jaris. Hercules is saddened when he discovers that she has come for Jaris, who is still a young man, and asks that she grant him one more day so that Jaris can get his affairs in order for his infant son.
The discussion prompts Hercules to flash back into the past, vividly recalling the first time he met Celesta -- at the death of Jaris' brother, Bartoc (Eric Lynch). Young Hercules (Ian Bohen) and Young Iolaus (Dean O'Gorman) are cadets on leave from Cheiron's (Nathaniel Lees) academy when they stumble across a band of teenage gang members. The gang is initiating 14-year-old Bartoc and when Hercules walks by, they challenge Bartoc to stab him. When he tries, a very cocky young Hercules eggs him on, slipping past his attempts. Soon Hercules gets Bartoc in a headlock and sends him flying into a tree. Bartoc breaks his neck and dies and Hercules gets his first glimpse of Celesta. Young Hercules feels terrible about what he's done and knows he must return Bartoc's body to his family. On his way there, Celesta once again appears to him. She urges him to help Bartoc's family find peace. When Hercules arrives at Bartoc's house, he meets Bartoc's father, Nehemiah (Bruce Hopkins), and Nehemiah's younger son, Young Jaris (Winston Harris). Hercules tells Nehemiah that his son is dead, but is unable to bring himself to admit that he is the one who accidentally killed him.
Back in present day, Hercules is at Jaris' farmhouse, the same one he visited as a boy. When he tells Jaris that he doesn't have much time to live, Jaris begins to reminisce with Hercules about Bartoc and the past. In the scene that unfolds, Young Iolaus has been snatched up by the gang. They taunt him and tell him that they plan on avenging the death of Bartoc. When Iolaus hears this, he reacts by knocking out Kenickus (Clint Sharplin), second in command of the gang, before the rest of the gang jumps him. Soon, Iolaus is able to escape and goes to find Hercules, who is at the gravesite of Bartoc. Iolaus tells Hercules that Kenickus and the gang are out to get him and Nehemiah. So, at Nehemiah's invitation, both Hercules and Iolaus decide to remain at the farmhouse a while longer.
Again in present day, Jaris is pursuing vigilante justice on the streets of his village. He finds Claxon and kills him before running off to find the next evildoer. Celesta appears and is very upset that Jaris has taken the law into his own hands. She warns Hercules that if Jaris continues on his rampage, Hades won't permit him to enter the Elysian Fields despite all the good he's done in his life. Hercules vows to stop him.
Back in the past, about 50 gang members surround the farm. When Jaris comes out, Dageth (Joseph Murray), the leader of the gang, urges him to become a member like his brother Bartoc was. Jaris is shocked by this revelation about his brother and wants to know how he really died. Hercules finally tells him and Nehemiah the true story. Suddenly, the gang begins to attack, tossing fiery torches into the farmhouse which Iolaus and Jaris quickly extinguish. Hercules and Nehemiah join forces to ward off as many gang members as they can. When Jaris sees his beloved tree house is ablaze, he runs toward it, straight into Dageth's path. Hercules, however, jumps in and defeats the gang leader and his boys.
In the present once again, Celesta has finally taken Jaris, and Hercules stands at the gravesite reflecting on the past.
