Returning to the island of Eire, Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) is surprised to find how comfortable he feels with Morrigan (Tamara Gorski) and her daughter Brigid (Benedicta Joseph). Though she once slaughtered their people, the Celts slowly learn to trust Morrigan as she helps to rebuild a village destroyed by the Romans. In turn, she has come to accept her role as the druid embodiment of Justice. All seems peaceful in Eire and Hercules and Morrigan share a picnic, where they admit an attraction for each other. Hercules is wary of letting anyone get close to him since everyone he loves dies. Rain drives them into a cave where they fall asleep, but Hercules' rest is interrupted by visions of a city in flames, Druids lying dead, his comrade Nebula (Gina Torres) in a burning bed and a shadowy figure. Hercules wakes to find the entrance of the cave replaced with solid rock. He punches through the rock and races to the Temple of Virtue, where he finds the Druids slaughtered. The young Mabon (Nicko Vekka), revered as the druid god of wisdom, quietly dies in Hercules' arms. Hercules recognizes the carnage as the work of the demonic god Dahak and announces that he must return to place where they last battled, Sumeria. Morrigan demands to go with him since, as guardian of Justice, she cannot insure peace for the people of Eire while this embodiment of evil lives.
In Sumeria, Hercules finds that Nebula has been locked up. Her advisors tell him that she has gone insane. Hercules enters her cell and attempts to get her to talk rationally. Eventually, Nebula explains that she had been having vivid, waking dreams of her dead love, Iolaus (Michael Hurst). Although amused at first, the visions got in the way of her ability to rule and she decided to send the apparition away. The ghostly Iolaus turned angry, assumed the aspect of a demon and, set her bed on fire in an attempt to kill her. Though Nebula assumes it was all her imagination, Hercules visits Iolaus' tomb. As he peers into the empty coffin, Hercules spins around to come face to face with Iolaus. As Iolaus speaks, it is apparent that Dahak has entered Iolaus' dead body. This evil Iolaus/Dahak and Hercules fight and, though Hercules manages to save Nebula and Morrigan, he is unable to bring himself to kill this creature with his friend's face. As Dahak escapes, he threatens retribution upon all of Greece. Hercules, Morrigan and Nebula follow, prepared to stop Dahak together...or die trying.
