Hercules desperately tries to direct the frantic townspeople of Mount Pelion as the volcano above their village is about to erupt. Amid the chaos, Hercules encounters the Amazon Queen Ephiny (Danielle Cormack) and suddenly gets an idea of how to stop the volcano. He breaks for the seashore and Ephiny follows. Later, Hercules emerges from the ocean dragging a small boat filled with hundreds of explosive crystals leftover from the destruction of Atlantis. He tells Ephiny that he is going to use the crystals to blow a hole in the far side of the volcano, which will allow the lava to flow away from the village and out to sea.
They return to town and prepare three wagons to carry the crystals. Three local men volunteer to help with the mission, but they still need another body to complete the task. Hercules goes to the jail where a crowd has gathered for a hanging. The young man, Kurth (Jonathon Roberts), is about to be executed for murdering the Centaur Nagus' (James Gaylyn) son, Okun. Hercules tells him that if he helps with the task at hand and survives, he will speak on his behalf to stop the execution. Kurth agrees, but Nagus, as well as Opakus (Clint Sharplin), Okun's troublemaking friend, want justice and do not want to see Kurth go free. Nonetheless, Hercules' group departs for their venture up the mountain. On the outskirts of town, one of the wagons hits a steam geyser and explodes. Only Hercules, Ephiny, Kurth and a teen named Linxus (Taungaroa Emile) are left to stop the volcano.
After stopping for a minor repair, Ephiny learns that Linxus is an only child and that his family needs him to help run the farm. She sends him home, takes the wagon and catches up with Hercules and Kurth. After transfering all of the remaining crystals into one wagon, the group is besieged by a torrent of arrows from a vengeful Opakus and his gang. Hercules bats the arrows aside with a plank of wood and Ephiny charges the hillside. While Ephiny battles the thugs, Hercules tends to one of the horses that has been hit by an arrow. During the confusion, Kurth unhitches a horse and rides away. As he rides, Kurth is thrown off the horse when it is startled by Nagus. Nagus ponders killing Kurth for the murder of his son, but at the last moment he turns and walks away. Ephiny finds Kurth and they return to find that the last remaining horse is too injured to pull the cart. Hercules leaves to look for Nagus. When he finds him, he convinces the reluctant Centaur to help pull the wagon to the top of the mountain.
Hercules, Ephiny, Nagus and Kurth continue their dangerous journey until they come to a suspension bridge spanning a gorge. With the volcano nearing eruption, Hercules realizes that they have to carry the crystals across by hand. Ephiny, Kurth and Hercules each grab a bag and gingerly maneuver across the bridge. Some of the crystals fall out of Kurth's bag and explode, causing immense shock waves that rock the bridge. Suddenly, Opakus appears, unnoticed by Nagus, and begins to cut the anchor ropes that hold up the bridge. Hercules notices this and yells to Nagus, who turns and attacks Opakus. When Ephiny slips and breaks her leg on the swaying bridge, Kurth grabs her and takes her across. With his friends and crystals safely across, Hercules turns back to help Nagus. They defeat Opakus, but during the battle, the last wagon falls into the gorge. Hercules, Nagus and Kurth leave Ephiny to tend to a broken leg and continue up the mountain. Since so many crystals were lost during the journey, the only way to stop the volcano is to throw the remaining crystals directly into the crater -- a sheer suicide mission. While Nagus tries to prevent Hercules from doing this alone, Kurth grabs the bags containing the crystals and makes his way to the crater. By the time Hercules and Nagus realize that he is gone, it is too late to reach him. In a terrifying and redeeming moment, Kurth steps off the edge of the crater and disappears amid the fire and smoke. Suddenly a tremendous explosion rips a role in the side of the crater facing the sea and the lava pours into the ocean.
