Hercules: The Legendary Journeys

Love, Amazon Style

Hercules (Kevin Sorbo) and Iolaus (Michael Hurst) are wandering through the woods when they come across an unhappy Aphrodite (Alexandra Tydings), who disappears before they can find out why she's depressed. The goddess of love materializes outside an Amazon camp and, thinking that their male-bashing has gone a little too far, casts a spell on the Amazons to give them a new attitude. Later, Hercules and Iolaus enter a casino and find the Amazons waiting on tables and grudgingly obeying every order given to them by the casino manager Vargus (Campbell Cooley). Hercules suddenly spots Deimos (Joel Tobeck), the god of terror, and figures he's up to something. But when Hercules sees a group of Amazons dancing in a chorus line, he realizes they have to be under a spell and knows just who's responsible. Hercules leaves Iolaus to look after the Amazons and he goes to see Aphrodite. She tells him that she didn't mean to turn the Amazons into slaves, but ever since she broke up with Hephaestus (Jason Hoyte), her powers have been out of whack. Hercules thinks this is because she misses Hephaestus, but Aphrodite doesn't buy it and vanishes. Meanwhile, Iolaus tries to befriend the Amazon Queen Kayla (Simone Kessell), who tries to ignore him but can't resist his charm.

Hercules goes to Hephaestus' forge and convinces him to try to reconcile with Aphrodite. They arrive at Aphrodite's temple and just as Aphrodite is about to fling herself back into Hephaestus' arms, a gorgeous Amazon (Sonia Gray) rushes up to Hephaestus and starts to kiss him. Furious, Aphrodite disappears. Meanwhile at the casino, Iolaus notices that many of the Amazons are missing. Knowing that Kayla cannot refuse an order given to her, he orders her to tell him what's going on. Unable to resist, Kalya tells Iolaus that Deimos has the Amazons digging in a mine looking for the Cronos stone -- a stone so powerful it would give Deimos more power than Zeus. Iolaus knows that Hercules shattered the stone a long time ago, but Kayla tells him that Artemis gave the Amazons its remnants to help protect them from the gods and she is the only one who knows the stone's location. Suddenly, an Amazon knocks Iolaus unconscious and Deimos takes Kayla to the mine.

While Hercules returns to the casino, Aphrodite appears and tells him that Deimos is looking for the Cronos stone. Hercules tells Aphrodite that she must make up with Hephaestus to regain her powers. Aphrodite reluctantly agrees and vanishes with a pout. Hercules arrives at the casino and rescues Iolaus, who has been tied up in a cage.

As Hercules and Iolaus head for the mine to stop Deimos, Aphrodite and Hephaestus appear, but they are still fighting. Annoyed, Hercules handcuffs them together and tells them to work out their differences. He and Iolaus hurry on towards the mine, but Deimos has already recovered the stone. He sends a group of Amazons out to kill Hercules and Iolaus, but the guys don't want to fight. They trap the Amazons in a cave so that no one gets hurt and Hercules rushes to the mine, where Deimos is throwing fireballs left and right. Aphrodite and Hephaestus, still bickering, arrive and are oblivious to the commotion. Hephaestus is sent flying through the air by a fireball that nearly strikes him. Aphrodite rushes to his side and pronounces her love for him, breaking the spell. Realizing the Amazons will come after him, Deimos quickly vanishes. But the Amazons are able to exact a measure of revenge by having Vargus wait on them hand and foot at the casino.
