Smallville

Wither

There is something out in the woods that is killing people. Clark and Chloe go to investigate the matter. During the search, Clark meets a beautiful park ranger named Gloria. Before the two can become better acquainted, Chloe discovers the boyfriend of a girl who was found dead. He is entangled in a vine, barely alive. When Clark tries to unwrap him, the vine cut his hands, proving they are of alien origin. Feeling this could be one of Lex Luthor’s experiments, Clark breaks into the greenhouse at Lex’s mansion, only to be caught by Lex himself. Lex insists that he had nothing to do with the deadly vines. After Clark warns Lex that Lana will never truly be with him if he doesn't change his ways, Lex claims that being with Lana has made him do just that. Lex ends the conversation by telling Clark that he is no longer welcome on his property. Meanwhile, attempting to prove himself to Chloe since she chose to investigate the woods with Clark instead of him, Jimmy Olsen goes out to the woods himself to investigate. He crosses paths with Gloria. She immediately entangles him in the same deadly vine as the young man was wrapped in when Clark and Chloe found him.

Oliver Queen visits the Kent household to personally deliver a letter to Martha Kent. Lois answers the door, accepts the letter, and dismisses Queen as an errand boy. After discovering that Martha was to meet with him to discuss political matters, Lois visits Queen at his loft in Metropolis. Smitten with the fast-talking young woman, Queen agrees to reschedule his meeting with Martha if Lois attends Lex Luthor’s charity ball with him. Meanwhile, Chloe discovers that electricity can damage the deadly vines. Clark has meanwhile found out that Gloria isn’t who she said she is. In trying to stop her, he learns she is an alien who escaped from the Phantom Zone when he did. She plans to adjust to her new home by replacing people with flora and fauna. After entrapping Clark in her deadly vines, she makes off for Lex’s charity ball to seek out more victims. Later, Chloe finds both Clark and Jimmy tied up. While Chloe tends to Jimmy, Clark pays another visit to Lex’s greenhouse, finding Gloria attempting to seduce a young man into her grasp. Though Clark initially tries to reason with Gloria, telling her that she could adjust to this new world like he has, he ends up having to destroy her when she refuses.

Lex’s charity ball to benefit the victims of Dark Thursday is a success...in more ways than one. It gets Martha her meeting with Oliver Queen. Unfortunately, Queen’s hopes for a relationship with Lois aren’t so successful, though it remains obvious the two are still interested in each other. Lana and Lex’s relationship is taken a step further. Despite recent tabloid articles about the two’s relationship making Lana question her trust in her choice to be Lex’s girlfriend, she accepts her choice, even engaging in sexual intercourse with Lex after the ball is over.

Though Clark managed to save everyone at the ball from Gloria, he is left alone and unsure of everything surrounding him.
