During a fundraiser to help advance Martha Kent's political career, a priceless necklace that Lionel Luthor gave to Senator Kent is stolen by a mysterious figure in a green leather costume. Though the shifty figure manages to evade Lois Lane as she tries to pursue him, Lois is able to snag a ring from him. Milo, the head of SafeTex Security, questions Lois about the robbery. It turns out several other rich citizens of Metropolis have been robbed recently of similar items. Feeling she has the story of the century, Lois conveniently forgets to tell Milo about the ring, determined to uncover the identity of this thief she names “Green Arrow”. Later, she takes the ring to Chloe to try and have the crest identified, though does so apprehensively since she secretly fears her cousin might try and snag the story for herself. Little does Lois know that this thief is actually her new boyfriend, Oliver Queen.
Upon learning that his mother was robbed, Clark goes to check on Lois. He finds her at Oliver Queen’s loft in Metropolis. When Clark explains that he is determined to find the necklace so there is no chance his mother will be indebted to Lionel Luthor for it, Oliver speaks his mind on the subject, claiming Lionel and the other people who were robbed acquired their items by underhanded means. With Lionel’s help, Clark is able to track down Green Arrow. The leather-clad archer outwits Clark in a fight. Later, several men break into Lois’ apartment at the Talon, kidnapping Lois as she makes a cellphone call to Chloe.
Chloe reveals to Clark that she has been successful in identifying the crest on the stolen ring. After seeing a photograph of it, Clark matches it with the Queen family crest he saw at Oliver’s loft. He sets off to track Queen down, knowing it will lead him to also finding the kidnapped Lois. Meanwhile, Lois is shocked to learn that the goons who kidnaped her work for SafeTex Security. When they ask her if she knows who the Green Arrow is, she truthfully responds that she doesn’t, but since her investigation into the robberies would eventually expose his dealings in the selling of black market items, Milo is determined to have Lois killed. The Arrow arrives just in time to save her.
When she comes to it, Lois tries to attack and unmask her savior, but Clark secretly prevents the unmasking from taking place to protect Queen’s secret identity. Later, Clark informs Queen that he knows his secret identity. He also tells Queen, based on his own experiences with Lana, that he will never have a successful relationship with Lois if he keeps his identity as the Green Arrow a secret from her. Clark is also not shy to tell Queen that he is opposed to Queen’s method of stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Though Queen and Clark have conflicting views, Queen still wants the two to work together. He tells Clark to come to him when he is ready to see “the bigger picture”.
Lex Luthor and Lana Lang’s relationship takes another interesting turn. After Lex is paid a visit by Dr. Gnoll, a scientist Lex is working with to uncover the secrets of the alien weapon that he acquired on Dark Tuesday, Lana discovers that Lionel also knows about the weapon. Lana blackmails Dr. Gnoll to protect Lex from what appears to be a plan setup by Lionel and Gnoll to get the weapon away from Lex. Unbeknownst to Lana, Lex risked telling his father about the weapon in the first place to get his help in testing Lana’s loyalty...a test she passed with flying colors. Lionel expresses interest in using this chance to make amends with Lex. The younger Luthor refuses to comply, confidant that his father is only interested in the alien weapon, even if his father has fooled himself into thinking he’s changed his ways.
