Ten years ago Lex Luthor was a student at Excelsior Prep School. His only friend, Duncan, and him were bullied by Oliver Queen and his two best friends, Geoffrey and Alden. After Duncan and Lex discovered that Queen and his friends had stolen a copy of an exam, they argued over how to handle this knowledge. Insecure with his lack of popularity, Lex wanted to blackmail Oliver into being their friend. Knowing how wrong it is to buy friendship, Duncan refused to go along with Lex. Moments after making his choice, Duncan was confronted by Oliver, Geoffrey and Alden. It was revealed that Lex made a bargain with Oliver already. A fierce fight ensued between Lex and Duncan. During the skirmish, Lex unleashed a relentless array of punches, severely wounding Duncan. Embarrassed and betrayed, Duncan ran out into the street, inadvertently being struck by a car. Lionel Luthor tried to cover up Lex’s mistake by giving Duncan’s poor parents the best doctors to care for their son, however, Duncan ended up dying two days later.
In the present, both Lex and Oliver return to Excelsior for a ten year reunion. They have their respective dates, Lana and Lois, with them. During the course of the reunion, Geoffrey and Alden are killed. Meanwhile, still feeling guilty for the events of Dark Thursday, Clark decides he has to investigate a series of alien craters that popped up on that day around the same time he escaped from the Phantom Zone. Furthermore, it's said an alien-like figure was seen coming out of a crater in India, strongly hinting that Gloria wasn't the only Phantom Zone escapee. In order to get to the bottom of this revelation, Clark will have to seek out Oliver Queen’s help, seeing as Queen’s company had the only working satellites on Dark Thursday. Queen agrees to help Clark in return for Clark helping him solve the murder of his friends, which he believes is Lex’s doing.
Though both Lionel and Lana attempt to console Lex about the death of his former classmates, Lex is downright cold about the deaths, feeling justice was served. Oliver’s hunch that Lex was behind the killings ends when Lana is injured during a ghostlike attack at the mansion. When Clark learns from Oliver that Lionel tried to cover-up Lex’s past mistake, he confronts Lionel about the past occurrence. Lionel reveals that Duncan is still alive. In the past, Lionel had made a bargain with Duncan’s mother to fund a research project to try and cure the damage that Duncan sustained because of the accident. In return for Lionel’s assistance, Duncan’s mother would play along that her son was dead. Lionel claims he kept Duncan’s survival from Lex to try and keep the heavy weight of guilty off his son’s shoulders, hoping he would move on.
Clark’s discovery leads him to the hospital where Duncan is being kept. Having been researching Duncan for an Inquisitor article on the recent murders, Lois shows up at the same time. The two work together and discover that Duncan is being injected with Kryptonite serum that is not only keeping him alive, but has also given him the power to extract his revenge on not only his former bullies, but also his former friend. Clark is able to stop Duncan, saving Lex and Oliver from certain death. Unfortunately, the vengeful Duncan dies in the process.
In the end, Lex demands that his father give him the records of Oliver’s treatments. Meanwhile, based on what Chloe discovers from the information that Oliver provided Clark, Clark learns that there were more than just a few craters made on Dark Thursday. In one of the satellite images, he is rather surprised to discover Jor’El’s thought-to-be dead assistant Raya.
