On the morning of Lex and Lana’s wedding, Lana has a change of heart. She still has feelings for Clark. Having taken all the honest routes to learn Clark’s secret, Lana contemplates taking a dishonest one. After seeking counsel from Nell, her aunt, Lana decides to go through with her dishonest plan. She hides Lex’s wedding present in the mansion wine cellar, then asks Chloe to get it for her. Unbeknownst to Chloe, Lana locks her in the cellar. Chloe calls Clark so he can use his powers to break her out. Hiding in the cellar, Lana witnesses Clark break open the door and use his heat vision to repair it. When Chloe asks Clark why he isn’t going to stick around and stop Lana from making a mistake and marrying Lex, Clark tells Chloe that as hard as it is to accept Lana’s choice, he has come to accept it since he feels she truly loves Lex. Even after Chloe tells Clark that she suspects Lana is having a change of heart, Clark is still reluctant to share his secret with Lana, concerned she might be put in danger. Lana is now aware of both Clark’s powers and his reasons for keeping them a secret from her.
Lionel Luthor pays Lex a visit at LuthorCorp. The elder Luthor promises his son, who is concerned that his darkside will end up driving Lana away from their marriage, that Lana and him will be together. At the urge of Martha, Clark decides to tell Lana about both his secret and his feelings for her. He confronts Lana at the mansion. Before he can express his feelings, Lana tells Clark that she isn’t going through with the marriage. She asks him to meet her at the barn at the same time everyone else will be at the wedding ceremony so she can explain why. While he waits for Lana to arrive, Clark practices proposing to Lana on his dog, Shelby.
Before Lana can leave the mansion, Lionel shows up. Lionel gets a glimpse of a letter she is leaving for Lex to tell him she can’t go through with the marriage. Suspecting it’s because of Clark and his secret, Lionel threatens to kill Clark if Lana doesn’t go through with the marriage. Meanwhile, Lex has a secret meeting with Doctor Langston in the crypt beneath the church the wedding is being held at. Langston threatens to tell Lana the truth about her child if Lex doesn’t give him a huge sum of money. Not willing to be blackmailed, but knowing that the truth will drive Lana away, Lex has no other choice than to murder Langston. Since she can’t risk Clark’s life, Lana goes through with her marriage to Lex.
In the end, Lana is forced to tell an emotionally distraught Clark that she had a change of heart and really wanted to marry Lex, despite feeling just the opposite. Having know about Lex’s meeting with Langston, and the gruesome outcome, Lionel blackmails Lex into promising him a huge favor in the future.
