Smallville

Combat

Ever since Lex and Lana’s wedding, Clark has been filled with anger and rage. He is trying to push aside all the emotions that make him, an alien, very human. After Oliver Queen informs him about a fight club that holds fights between meteor freaks that are shown on the internet, Clark watches one of the fights. He notices a Kryptonian tattoo on the arm of the fight club’s top fighter, the freakish Titan, proving he’s a Phantom Zone prisoner. Clark decides that he is going to do whatever he has to in order to defeat Titan, even going as far as to kill him. After Chloe informs him that the club’s promoter is actually Richter Maddox, a doctor from Belle Reve, Clark pays Maddox a visit. Though Maddox tries to deny having anything to do with the fight club, his tune changes when he witnesses Clark use his powers.

After she fails to get a story for The Inquisitor, Lois’ desperation to get a new story leads her to the same fight club as Clark. The club’s bouncer, Athena, catches Lois snooping around. Though Lois manages to hold her own against Athena in a fight, Maddox stops her from leaving. Later on, Lois is pitted against Clark in a fight to be aired on the internet. Before the two can try and find a way out of the fight, Titan bursts into the fighting cage, intent on having a fight with Clark who he knows is Kal’El. Not so eager to give away that fight just yet, Maddox tries to call Titan off. Titan responds by killing Maddox. In the first part of their long and gruesome battle, Titan beats Clark to a bloody pulp. When Lois tries to help Clark, Titan knocks her down. To prevent any of the internet audience from seeing him use his powers, Clark destroys the uplink before resuming his fight with Titan. For virtually the rest of their battle, Titan dominates Clark. When Clark finally mounts a comeback, he causes his bigger opponent to impale himself.

Though Lois will be okay and the fight club has been shut down for good, Clark realizes his anger and rage almost got the better of him. Martha tells Clark that his realization of that is what will keep him from giving into his anger in the future. In addition to hunting down the rest of the Phantom Zone prisoners, Clark plans to find out the real reason why Lana married Lex, certain she was forced into it. Meanwhile, Lana’s problems get worse when she suffers what appears to be a miscarriage. She is told that her physician, Dr. Langston, died in a car accident on the same day as her wedding. Lana asks Lex to get all her medical files from Langston’s office. Lex does, but instead of giving them to Lana he burns them. He also tells his personal doctor, who treated Lana during the apparent miscarriage, to forget that she ever treated his wife.
