Eager to fit in Kara is determined to enter the annual Smallville Sweet Corn Pagent, despite Clark wanting her to spend her time learning to control her abilities so she won’t mistakenly expose their Kryptonian heritage to the world. While preparing for the pagent, Kara happens upon the dead, frozen body of Carly, one of the contestants. Meanwhile, Agent Carter of the U.S. Domestic Security pays Lex a visit at LuthorCorp. After informing Lex that he knows about his search for the blonde woman, Carter reveals that the government has vested interest in her because of his interest in her.
Lana returns to town and reveals the truth about her “death” to Clark. Clark invites her to stay on the farm. Before she can make her return to town public, Lana has to sort of several legal issues with Lex. After informing Lana that everything is settled, Lex also lets Lana know that he is aware of the fact that she extorted a great deal of money from him in order to fake her death. Lex leaves Lana to ponder how Clark will react to finding out about the extortion.
Daily Planet editor Grant Gabriel orders Chloe to go to Metropolis and cover the pagent, having seen a photo Jimmy took of Carly that he assumes Chloe took. Jimmy gets to Smallville before Chloe and snaps a suspicious shot of Tyler and Tempest, two other contestants, leaving the Talon while one of the judges is speaking with the Sheriff about Carly’s murder. Having killed Carly, Tyler and Tempest decide they have to take out Jimmy to be safe. Tyler is a meteor freak with the ability to freeze people to death. Tempest’s power allows her to summon the wind as a weapon. Tyler uses her powers on Jimmy after he enters his vehicle, but is unsuccessful as Kara rips the door off and saves the young man’s life. Though Kara isn’t aware of her presence, Tyler gets a good look at her using her powers to save Jimmy.
Chloe looks into Tyler and Tempest and discovers they are thieves. Clark and her reach the conclusion that they have entered the pagent to steal the prize, a map that leads to a treasure buried in the Smallville time capsule. Tyler and Tempest trick Kara into helping them find the treasure map, intending to frame her for both Carly’s murder and the theft of the map. Meanwhile, they will steal the treasure and leave town. After she is crowned Miss Sweet Corn Kara is arrested. Though Clark asks her to not break out of prison, Kara does and uses her powers to stop Tyler and Tempest from killing him when he tries to stop them from stealing the treasure. Clark thanks Kara for what she has done and promises her that he will at least try and let her learn to control her powers her own way, realizing his tough love method is what nearly got him killed in the first place. Once Kara is cleared of the theft and Carly’s murder, Clark and her discuss the true reason she helped the meteor freaks steal the map. She wanted to get to the treasure, a Kryptonian amulet, so it wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands. Kara is certain that this amulet belongs to another Kryptonian that is somewhere on the planet.
Lex sways Agent Carter away from looking for Kara by presenting him with a disc of information on the alien spacecraft that landed in Smallville during the second meteor shower and his Level 33.1 experiments. In exchange for his presentation of the information to Carter, Lex wants to work with the government on any projects related to protecting the planet from the alien invasion he suspects is coming. Though Jimmy has always been reluctant to believe the majority of Smallville’s crimes are related to meteor freaks, the recent events have made him a firm believer. This troubles Chloe who fears Jimmy won’t love her anymore when he finds out she is a meteor freak. Though Jimmy still loves Chloe, he has also developed an admiration of Kara, who is certainly smitten with him.
Clark and Lana decide to give having a romantic relationship another chance, though Kara warns Clark that he will continue to live young while Lana will someday grow old and perish, leaving him heartbroken. Lex’s security team have located Kara exactly where Lex suspected she would be. While leaving The Talon, Kara comes face to face with Lex. Kara denies having had anything to do with saving his life, but Lex knows better. He promises to keep her presence and powers a secret, having already done so by not telling Carter her whereabouts. After Kara still tries to deny her part in saving him, Lex assures her that he will eventually find out the truth about her.
