Smallville

Hero

Clark and Chloe’s childhood friend Pete Ross, now a roadie for the band OneRepublic, accidently acquires the ability to stretch himself like elastic after chewing a piece of kryptonite-laced gum. While using his ability to save Kara from a falling speaker, Jimmy snaps a digital photograph of Pete using his elastic like hands. Meanwhile, without her memories Kara doesn’t feel at home at the Kent farm and suspects Clark and Lana are keeping things from her. Lex asks Kara to find out anything she can about the mysterious symbol from the Kwatchee caves that was burnt into the wall of the Kent barn a few years ago. When Kara confronts Lana about the symbol, Lana denies knowing anything about it - even after Kara calls out Lana’s lie by stating that she saw a photo of a tattoo of a similar one that used to be on her back.

Pete’s reunion with Clark isn’t a happy one, as the moment he arrives at the Kent farm Lionel is leaving. Pete is shocked that Clark would trust Lionel. While shooting hoops, Clark discovers Pete’s powers. Though Clark warns Pete about using his powers in public, Pete intends to do just that, feeling if Clark would do that he wouldn’t have to carry the burden of watching his back to hide his friend’s secret. Pete warns Clark that if he gets in his way he will expose his secret to the world. At the Daily Planet building, Jimmy gives Chloe the photograph he took of Pete saving Kara to use for an article he is writing about Pete with his permission. Chloe is surprised to find out that her old friend is a meteor freak like her. While trying to stop Pete, Clark stumbles upon a warehouse full of kryptonite-laced gum and destroys it all.

In an effort to find out what Chloe knows about Clark, Lex hijacks all the files from her work computer onto his. The first file he takes a look at is the photo of Pete using his powers to save Kara. Pete is one step ahead of Lex after Chloe informs Pete about the photo. He hacks into Lex’s computer and spread a virus across the Daily Planet’s entire network, wiping out proof of the photo and any information about Clark that Chloe had on her computer. Lex catches Pete as he finishes uploading the virus. Unaware of the fact that Chloe has a meteor power, Pete is shocked to find out that she does when Lex blackmails him into stealing Kara’s bracelet from Lionel’s safe. Though Clark manages to stop Pete from getting away with the bracelet, his friend decides to go after Lex, intent on putting an end to his schemes. Pete exposes Clark to a stash of kryptonite he found in Lionel’s safe to insure he doesn’t stop him. Later on, Pete meets up with Lex at the warehouse and claims that he couldn’t find the bracelet. Lex’s bodyguard tries to beat the whereabouts of the bracelet out of Pete, inadvertently making Pete spit out the gum that was giving him his elastic ability. With no ability to protect him Pete is pummeled by Lex’s bodyguard, not willing to betray his friends even though his own well being is at stake.

In the end, Clark rescues Pete and the two make amends before Pete leaves town. Realizing that Kara and him won’t work as a couple, Jimmy asks Chloe out for a coffee. Clark hides Kara’s bracelet in the Kent barn, and decides that he needs to have a conversation with Lionel about why he would hide the bracelet from him. Lex’s secretary informs him that the consolation that appears in his family crest was last seen in the sky on the day of the first Smallville meteor shower. Kara asks Lex if she can stay with him at the mansion, no longer trusting Clark and Lana due to the obvious fact that they are hiding her past from her. Lex is more than happy to make her feel right at home, now even closer to discovering the truth about her and the connection she has to Clark.
