Around the same time that Lionel receives a letter from the Veritas group, Clark is abducted from the farm by Pierce, a former Level 33.1 security guard. He is taken to a secret facility and locked in a kryptonite-lined cell. Later that night, Lana and Chloe discover an eltrode from one of the kryptonite enhanced taser guns on the ground near the spot where Clark was abducted.
The next day in Metropolis, Lionel meets up with Patricia Swann, the person who wrote him the letter he received the night before. Patricia informs Lionel that she recently acquired all her late father’s research, including information on Veritas - a secret club that her father and Lionel, along with the Queen and Teague families, formed with the intention of protecting the Son of Krypton once he arrived on the planet. Since Lionel is the only living member of that group left, Patricia believes he had everyone else murdered, intending to keep the Son of Krypton for his own selfish reasons. If Lionel refuses to hand the Son of Krypton over to her, Patricia threatens to make Lionel’s murders of the Veritas group public by releasing the evidence she has to the press. Later that night, Lionel walks in on Pierce as he turns up the voltage in Clark’s cell, and reprimands him for it, claiming he created the chamber to contain Clark and not torture him.
Lana and Chloe pay Lionel a visit at LuthorCorp and blame him for Clark’s abduction, noting that besides them, he is the only other person who knows about Clark’s weakness to kryptonite. Lionel points the blame on Lex suggesting Kara has regained her memory and Lex now knows Clark’s secret and weakness. After Lana threatens to kill Lex if he hurts Clark, Lionel asks the two to let him handle the situation since Lex is his son. Later on, Chloe finds out about an abandoned airstrip that Lionel purchased outside Metropolis. The information Chloe finds notes that the airstrip was turned into a Level 33.1 like facility, suspiciously around the same time Lionel discovered Clark’s secret. The two suspect that he is lying to them and has taken Clark. They decide that in order to rescue Clark they will have to find a way to restore Kara’s memory and powers.
Patricia visits with Lex at the Luthor mansion to give him a painting of the Veritas insignia that he made when he was a child. She claims to know nothing more about Veritas but suggests to Lex that his father would since he was a member. Following his conversation with Patricia, Lex meets up with his father and asks him about Veritas. After Lionel tries to pass off Veritas as nothing more than an astronomy club, Lex promises Lionel that he will go to Patricia to get an answer, suspecting she knows more than she was willing to share. After Lex leaves, Lionel makes a frantic phone call to Patricia, telling her he is willing to make a deal with her.
Lana and Chloe use an underground tunnel system that Lex told Lana about when they were married in order to get Kara safely out of the Luthor mansion. Chloe takes Kara to the Fortress of Solitude and pleads with Jor’El to give her back her powers and memories. Jor’El answers her by doing so. Meanwhile, Patricia meets with Lionel at the abandoned airstrip. She agrees to hand over the evidence she has on him as long as he gives her Clark. Before the deal can go down Pierce knocks Patricia out. Lionel then instructs him to put Patricia on a plane headed for Europe and to return Clark to the farm. Instead of obeying Lionel, Pierce pulls a gun on him and threatens to pull the trigger if he won’t dispose of Clark, seeing him as being no different than the hostile meteor freaks he had encountered while working for Lex. Before Lionel can reason with Pierce, he knocks Lionel out and raises the voltage of the cell containing Clark to a deadly level. Suddenly, Kara bursts through the doors of the facility and uses her heat vision to destroy the kryptonite-lined cell holding Clark. Before Pierce can use a kryptonite enhanced taser to strike the reunited Kara and Clark down, Lionel knocks him to the ground below, impaling him on the wreckage of the cell.
In the end, Patricia gives Clark her father’s journal and decides to stay in Metropolis so she can be around to help him. She also tells him about the murders of the other members of the Veritas group that Lionel was responsible for. Clark gives Kara back her bracelet and thanks her for rescuing him. Lionel desperately tries to convince Clark that he had good intentions to keep him from Patricia. Clark refuses to believe him, convinced that their friendship has been nothing more than a lie. Though Clark has always tried to look for the good in everyone, he now feels that both Lionel and Lex are lost causes. On her way to her new apartment, Patricia is shot by her limo driver. Later that day, Lex holds Patricia’s locket, stained in blood, in one hand and the Veritas painting he made when he was younger in the other.
