Young Hercules

The Skeptic

Strife and the god of prophecy Fatuus make a deal. If Strife can best Hercules in a fight, Fatuus will teach Strife the gift of prophecy. If Strife can't he has to be Fatuus' friend for a year. Strife's determination to best his half-god rival grows when he discovers that Hercules and Iolaus' new friend, the new cadet Pythagoras, does not believe in the existence of the gods. Since Fatuus foresees a future where mankind doesn't believe in the gods anymore and they end up ceasing to exist, Strife decides he has to prove their existence to the nonbeliever. Ares suggests that Strife steal a bag of Zeus' wind from Olympus to prove his godly power to Pythagoras.

Knowing that the gods do exist since his own father is one of them, Hercules has a series of "philosophical" discussions with Pythagoras about their opposing beliefs. Pythagoras ends up revealing that the reason he doesn't believe in the gods is because when he was younger his parents prayed to the gods during desperate times, but their prayers were never answered. Hercules now understands why his new friend doesn't feel he can believe in the god's existence. Later, Strife shows up at the academy with a bag of Zeus' wind. The powerful wind tears apart the academy's workout room. With Iolaus and Pythagoras' help, Hercules manages to bag the wind after a scuffle with Strife. Fatuus rejoices as he will now have Strife as a friend for one year.
