1996 NBA Draft

  1. Philadelphia 76ers: Allen Iverson (Georgetown)
  2. Toronto Raptors: Marcus Camby (UMASS)
It was a little bit of a surprise to see him taken at number two, but Isiah was true to his original word saying he would draft the UMASS star. Many thought that Shareef would be picked here. He's finding that its not as easy to play in the pros, but is still putting up respectable numbers and is one of the top forwards in the rookie class. He finally signed a 3 year deal worth an estimated 8.4 million. Marcus was the College Player of the Year winning the Wooden and Naismith awards. He put up great numbers his junior year, leading to his decision to declare for the NBA draft. He's both UMASS's and the NCAA Tournament leader in blocks. Critics questioned whether or not his 6-11/220 lb body could stand up in the NBA. He had an injury ridden first campaign in the NBA and missed about 20 games his second season too, but didn't disappoint in his first year, making the All-Rookie First Team. Camby was named rookie of the month for March after he averaged 21.1 points and 9 rebounds. On March 23,1998 he poured in 32 points against Atlanta for a career high. On June 25, 1998, Camby was traded to the Knicks for Charles Oakley and the rights to second rounder Sean Marks. On March 12, 1999 the Knicks signed Marcus to a 6 year contract extension worth 39 million dollars. On June 26, 2002, the Knicks traded Camby along with Mark Jackson and the draft rights to Maybyner Hilario to the Denver Nuggets for Antonio McDyess, the draft rights to Frank Williams and a 2003 second-round pick. Although he had very little success for the Knicks in the 2001-2002 season, playing in only 29 games, he had an even worse year with the Nuggets in 2002-2003, still playing in only 29 games due to injury, but also contributing a lot less. On July 16, 2004, Denver re-signed Marcus Camby to a 6 year, $65 million contract. It was his reward for playing most of the year in 2003-2004. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2005, and again in 2006. In 2007 Camby was named the NBA Defensive player of the year.

  3. Vancouver Grizzlies: Shareef Abdur-Rahim (California)
  4. Milwaukee Bucks: Stephon Marbury (Georgia Tech)...traded to Minnesota.
  5. Minnesota Timberwolves: Ray Allen (UCONN)...traded to Milwaukee.
  6. Boston Celtics (from Dallas) Antoine Walker (Kentucky)
  7. LA Clippers: Lorenzen Wright (Memphis)
I'm a little surprised he went this high, I knew he was not suffering in the ratings from his injury, but I still thought he was a lock at 9. I guess his height, 6-11, helped him. In his rookie year he has spent time at PF and C, but I think he'll probably have more minutes at forward over his career. He signed a 3 year deal with the Clips worth 4.25 million dollars. Unfortunately for Lorenzen, because of being drafted by the Clippers, he was doomed to a dismal rookie year. He hasn't been able to stay in the starting lineup, although he has been given the chance. He was a Third Team All-American (AP) as a Sophomore before choosing to enter the draft. He was one of the nation's biggest prospects after being named to the McDonald's High School All-American Team. On August 8, 1999 The LA Clippers signed Lorenzen Wright to a 7 year, $42 million contract. They immediately traded him to Atlanta for Atlanta's 2000 1st round pick and Toronto's lottery protected 1st round pick - that pick will not be available until the first year Toronto is not in the lottery. On July 19, 2001 Atlanta traded Lorenzen Wright, Brevin Knight, and the rights to Pau Gasol (#3 draft pick) to Memphis for Shareef Abdur-Rahim and the rights to Jamaal Tinsley (#27 draft pick). On August 30, 2006 Atlanta signed Lorenzen Wright to a two year, $6 million contract.

  8. New Jersey Nets: Kerry Kittles (Villanova)
After being named a Unanimous First Team All-American as a senior, he was by far the best choice that Calipari could make. He left Villanova as the team's all-time leading scorer with 2,243. He was a consensus second team All-American as a junior, choosing to stay in school when he could have entered the draft early. He was the first senior drafted and only one of 11 seniors taken in the first round. Already the coach's favorite, Kerry's stealing playing time from the veterans and locking himself into the starting lineup. Kittles finally signed a 3 year, $4.677 million contract on September 5. Kerry has started to develop into a team leader, culminating in his selection as co-rookie of the month for December, averaging almost 20 points per game for the month. He scored a career high 40 points on 4/13/97 against Milwaukee. I thought he could make a serious run at ROY, and should have been named to the All-Rookie First Team, but he had to settle for Second Team Honors. In 1999, Kittles joined Keith Van Horn as the only untouchables forming the back bone of Nets teams to come. He signed a six year, 52 million dollar contract extension on March 12, 1999. On July 29, 2004 , New Jersey traded Kittles and $1.5 million to the LA Clippers for a 2005 second round draft pick.

  9. Dallas Mavericks (from Boston): Samaki Walker (Louisville)
He moved up considerably in the draft. He has size and strength, we'll see if he develops a scoring touch. He recorded Louisville's only triple double with points, rebounds and blocks. He is the best available PF at this position, so they probably made the right choice. Samaki signed a 3 year deal worth $4,299,000 with the Mavericks. An injury hobbled him early, but he is picking up steam. In swahili Samaki means "fish". On August 25, 1999, San Antonio signed him to a 2 year, $5.67 million contract with a 3rd year at the team's option worth $3.24 million. On July 20, 2001 the LA Lakers signed Samaki Walker to a 2 year, $3 million contract with the 2nd year at the team's option. He seemed to be just what the Lakers needed to relieve Shaq and fill in for him with his ever-more-frequest injuries. Miami signed him to a minimum contract for the 2003-2004 season. On August 4, 2004, Samaki signed a one year deal with the Wizards.

  10. Indiana Pacers: Erick Dampier (Miss. State)
They get a big man...I guess that's what they decided they needed. Dampier signed a 3 year deal with the Pacers worth an estimated 4 million. He started most of the games for the Pacers in the absence of Smits. At 6-11 and 265 pounds he has the body to bang with the other centers in the league. He was an Honorable Mention by the AP his last 2 years, and he was also on the All-SEC first team those years as well. With Smits back he is getting a chance to work on his game and slowly develop. We already know that if given the chance close to the basket he is going to finish with authority. Indiana trade him along with Duane Ferrell to GS for Chris Mullin on August 12, 1997. Golden State re-signed Erick Dampier to a 7 year, $48 million contract with a reported additional $12 million worth of incentives. On August 24, 2004, Golden State signed Dampier to a seven year, $73 million contract, then immediately traded him, along with Evan Eschmeyer, and the draft rights to Steve Logan, to Dallas for Eduardo Najera, Christian Laettner, the draft rights to Luis Flores, the draft rights to Mladen Sekularac, a Philadelphia 1st round draft pick (which Dallas got from Atlanta via the Jason Terry trade), and cash.

  11. Golden State Warriors: Todd Fuller (NC State)
Fuller signed a 3 year contract, first rookie to do so, his deal was worth around 3.8 mil. Let's see if he can play...or if he will be the next Jon Koncak. As a senior he was named to the All-ACC First Team after leading the ACC in scoring with 20.9 ppg. Fuller was named the 1996 Paine Webber Scholar-Athlete of the Year after posting a 3.97 GPA. He's had a couple flashes of brilliance in an otherwise mediocre first year. Golden State traded him to Utah for a second round draft pick on February 4, 1999. On September 13, 2000 he signed a free agent contract with the Miami Heat.

  12. Cleveland Cavaliers: Vitaly Potapenko (Wright State)
The Ukraine Train moved up from a projected middle second round pick as short a time ago as only one month before the lottery. I always had faith he would be a top 20 pick, but his showing at the Chicago camp REALLY helped him improve his stock. The Cavs signed him to a 3 year 3.686 million dollar contract. He's getting a lot of minutes in the paint. This native of Ukraine was born in Kiev and is trying to adjust to life in the US with Cav Roommate Bob Sura. Vitaly came to Wright State after playing for 2 years at Kiev State University. At Wright State he was named to the All-Midwestern Conference Team for 2 years. He picked up a few votes for the All-Rookie Teams, but was not given that honor. On March 1, 1997, Vitaly started his first NBA game, against the Celtics. On March 12, 199 he was traded to Boston for Andrew DeClercq. Then, Boston signed him to a six year, 33 million dollar contract extension. On July 22, 2002, the Celtics traded Potapenko to the Sonics along with Kenny Anderson and Joseph Forte for Vin Baker and Shammond Williams. On August 23, 2005 Seattle re-signed Vitaly Potapenko to a two year, $6 million contract. On February 23, 2006, in a four team trade, Denver traded away Earl Watson, Voshon Lenard, Bryon Russell, and a second round draft pick and received Reggie Evans, Ruben Patterson, and Charles Smith; Seattle traded away Vitaly Potapenko and Reggie Evans and received Earl Watson, Bryon Russell, and a second round draft pick; Portland traded away Ruben Patterson, Sergei Monia, and Charles Smith and received Voshon Lenard and Brian Skinner; Sacramento traded away Brian Skinner and received Vitaly Potapenko and Sergei Monia.

  13. Charlotte Hornets: Kobe Bryant

  14. Sacramento Kings: Pedrag Stojakovic.
He's one of the highest rated European prospects. Pedrag is still under contract with his Greek team, so the Kings couldn't sign him. He will play in Europe this year because he signed a 2 year contract with PAOK of the Greek League. Sacramento was going to challenge the contract in regards to the agreement between FIBA and the NBA, but they dropped the proceedings. He can play either the 2 or the 3 spot, although at 6-9 he can play the forward slot the best. On August 16, 2000 Sacramento signed Predrag Stojakovic to a 6 year, $45 million contract extension. He had an incredible season in 2000-01, becoming one of the NBA's elite players. He followed that up in 2002 with his first all-star game selection and was an all-star the next two years as well, through 2004. He was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2004, for his first selection to an All-NBA Team. It was also the year where he truly became the Kings leader on the court, not having to take a back seat to injured Chris Webber. On July 12, 2006, in a sign-and-trade, Indiana re-signed Peja Stojakovic to a five year, $64 million contract and traded him and cash to New Orleans for the rights to Andrew Betts (a 2nd round draft pick from 1998). By doing the sign-and-trade, Indiana also received a $7.5 million trade exception.

  15. Phoenix Suns: Steve Nash (Santa Clara).
He went a little lower than I thought, but a good pick for the Suns because KJ is retiring (supposedly) after one more year. His future became in doubt when the Suns acquired Jason Kidd. Nash signed a 3 year deal worth 3.16 million dollars with the Suns. Nash looked good in pre-season and his production carried into the regular season, giving them a glimmer of hope in an otherwise bleak start to 1996. There just wasn't enough minutes to go around to give him a spectacular rookie year, though. At Santa Clara he was the school's all-time assist leader (510) and third in points (1,689). He was also selected as the West Coast Conference Player of the Year in 1995 and 1996, the first Santa Clara player since Kurt Rambis to achieve that distinction. Steve was furthermore recognized as an Honorable Mention All-American (AP) as a senior. He spent 2 seasons with the Suns, before being traded to the Mavs in a draft day deal in 1998 for 1998 first rounder Pat Garrity, Martin Muursepp, Bubba Wells and the Mavs 1999 unconditional first round pick. Dallas signed Nash to a six year contract extension worth 33 million dollars on January 25, 1999. Steve was named to the All-Interview Second Team in 2001 and 2002, but made it to the All-Interview First Team in 2004. Steve made the all-star team in 2002. He was the first Canadian to make the team. In 2002, Nash received his first All-NBA recognition, being named to the All-NBA Third Team. He was also on the Third Team in 2003. On July 14, 2004 Phoenix signed Nash to a six year $66 million contract. He was a three time all-star reserve for the Mavs (2003-2004) and the Suns (2005), before becoming in all-star starer in 2006 in his fourth appearance. Nash was named the NBA's MVP following the 2004-2005 season. He edged Shaq 1066 to 1032 votes. He helped the Suns turn around and become the top team in the West. He was also named to the All-NBA First Team. In 2005-2006 he was also named the League MVP, this time beating Lebron James, and again a member of the All-NBA First Team. Nash didn't slow down in 2007 once again being named to the All-NBA First Team, but he was unable to follow up and win a third straight MVP.

  16. Charlotte Hornets: Tony Delk (Kentucky)
He was a former McDonald's and Parade High School All-American who had a lot of success at the college level. Critics thought he wouldn't make it in the NBA, but it looks like he'll do just fine. Delk signed a 3 year deal with the Hornets worth about a mil a year. After leading Kentucky to a national title and being chosen as a Consensus Second Team All-American, Tony is going to have to adjust to life coming off the bench in Charlotte. He was named the 1996 NCAA Tournament MVP after leading his Wildcats to the National Title. When given the chance, he has already proved he can come through in the clutch. On 11-7-97, Delk was traded to Golden State along with Muggsy Bogues for BJ Armstrong. He signed a one year contract with Sacramento for the 1999-2000 season. On August 2, 2000 he moved over to Phoenix signing a 6 year contract worth 19 million dollars. He was traded by the Suns with Rodney Rogers to the Boston Celtics for Randy Brown, Joe Johson, Milt Palacio, and a first-round draft pick on 2/20/02. On October 20, 2003, Dallas traded Raef LaFrentz, Jiri Welsch, Chris Mills, a 2004 draft pick (lottery protected) to Boston for Antoine Walker and Tony Delk. On August 4, 2004, Dallas traded Antoine Walker and Tony Delk to Atlanta for Jason Terry, Alan Henderson, and a 1st round draft pick. I guess Walker and Delk are destined to stay together.

  17. Portland Trail Blazers: Jermaine O'Neal
O'Neal became the youngest player ever to play an NBA game (18 years, 1 month and 22 days). He was on the USA Today all-USA Basketball team as a senior at Eau Claire HS in South Carolina where he was also the Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball in SC. Jermaine signed a 3 year $2.852 million dollar rooke contract. Portland then re-signed him to a four year deal worth 25 million dollars starting in the 1999-2000 season. On August 31, 2000 Indiana traded Dale Davis to Portland for Jermaine O'Neal and Joe Kleine. Jermaine has that terrific season once he got the playing time in Indiana. He could have been an all-star in 2001, and is one of the top PFs in the east now. He was an Eastern Conference All-Star Reserve in 2002, and was the starting forward in 2003 and 2004, and once again the starter in 2006 after coming off the bench in 2005. He was named to the 2001 Goodwill Games Team. He was also named the NBA's most improved player for the 2001-2002 season, and named to the All-NBA Third Team. He was also on the Third Team in 2003. In 2004, Jermaine was named to the All-NBA Second Team, in a season where he led the Pistons to the best record in the East. He also won the Magic Johnson Award in 2004, as the player who had the best cooperation with the media, and was named to the All-Interview First Team in 2004. On July 16, 2003, Indiana re-signed Jermaine to a 7 year, $126,588,000 contract

  18. New York Knicks: John Wallace (Syracuse)
THE Steal of the draft that people will be talking about for years to come. Arguably one of the top 5 college basketball players, with no real discernable flaws or reasons for this drastic fall, except perhaps for comparisons to Derrick Coleman, another Syracuse alum. Wallace slipped out of the big money, but still signed a 3 year deal for $2,257,900. I can't say it enough...John Wallace looks great, of all the Rookies he looks less like a first year player. After a hot start, he has cooled off. The Knicks are going for veterans and his playing time is suffering. John was a Second Team All-American (AP) as a senior. He considered leaving school as a junior, but finished his college career at Syracuse where he finished third on the school's career list in rebounds and scoring. He was named to the Big East All-Rookie Team and as a sophomore was on the All Big East Second Team. His last two years he was on the All Big East First Team. He was also named to the 1996 NCAA All-Tournament Team. Portland traded Chris Dudley to New York, New York traded John Wallace to Toronto, and Toronto traded their 1998 1st round draft pick to New York on 10-9-97. On August 6, 1999 New York signed John Wallace to a 3 year, $6.6 million contract. The Knicks once again traded John to, this time to Dallas. Then on August 29, 2000 Detroit traded Terry Mills and Christian Laettner to Dallas for Cedric Ceballos, John Wallace, Eric Murdock, and $3 million.

  19. New York Knicks (from Atlanta): Walter McCarty (Kentucky)
Another good pick for the Knicks who must think it is Christmas. McCarty signed a contract that pays him 2,156,300 over 3 years. We didn't get to see much of him as a rookie, with the Knicks deep bench. He was on the Kentucky team which won the national title. New York traded Dontae' Jones, John Thomas, Walter McCarty, and Scott Brooks to Boston for Chris Mills and two 2nd round draft picks. McCarty slid right into Rick Pitino's starting lineup, and never relinquished the spot averaging about 10 points and 5 rebounds per in the Celts new fast-paced, pressing game. He signed a three year contract extension to stay in Boston on February 2, 1999. On August 9, 2002 Boston re-signed him to a one year deal. On July 19, 2003, Boston re-signed Walter McCarty to a 3 year, $4.1 million contract. On February 8, 2004 Boston traded Walter McCarty and cash to Phoenix for a conditional second round draft pick.

  20. Cleveland Cavaliers: Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
I thought they would take this impressive player from Lithuania with their first pick, but since they were able to get him with their second, the Cavs have to be happy with their foreign twin towers of Ilgauskas and Potapenko. He signed a 3 year contract worth 2.48 million dollars, but didn't play at all due to a foot injury. In 1997-98, his official rookie year, Ilgauskas tore up the league and landed a spot on the Eastern Rookie Team that played in the Schick Rookie Game. He was also named to the 1998 All-Rookie First Team. In fact, he's arguably the only true center who was getting any minutes as a rookie anywhere in the league. Cleveland knew they had a good thing, and signed him to a six year contract extension worth 70.9 million dollars. He was an all-star reserve for the East in 2003 and 2005. On August 2, 2005 Cleveland re-signed Zydrunas Ilgauskas to a 5 year, $55 million contract.

  21. New York Knicks: Dontae' Jones (Miss State). Another good prospect, but at small forward (how many do the Knicks need). He underwent surgery to put a pin in his foot and was not available for basically his whole rookie year. He signed a 3 year deal worth 1,987,200 dollars. Just before the 1999 season began Dontae was cut by the Celtics.

  22. Vancouver Grizzlies (from Houston): Roy Rogers (Univ. of Alabama)
He was an excellent pick up for Vancouver who can pair Rogers power and defense with Shareef's explosive offense and open court play. I REALLY like this pick for the Grizzlies. He signed a 3 year deal worth 2.29 million dollars. He's already started several games for the team this year. He was on the All-SEC First Team (AP) as a senior. He completed a double major in marketing and finance. I thought he could make a challenge for a spot on the the All-Rookie Second Team, but he didn't make it. Vancouver traded Roy Rogers to Boston for Tony Massenburg and a 2nd round draft pick on October 28, 1997. He sat out most of 1997-98 to injury before being traded to Toronto on February 18, 1998 along with Chauncey Billups, John Thomas and Dee Brown for Kenny Anderson, Popeye Jones and Zan Tabak. He was then traded to Houston along with 2 draft picks for Kevin Willis on June 9, 1998. Before ever playing a game for the Rockets, Roy was traded to Chicago along with a second round draft pick for Scottie Pippen. Write it down...cuz there's a trivia question for you in year's to come. Who was traded for Scottie Pippen? He was cut by the Bulls, and then signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers prior to the 1999 season. He signed with Sacramento for the 2000-2001 season.

  23. Denver Nuggets: Efthimis Rentzias
Denver traded his rights and a 2000 2nd round draft pick to Atlanta for Preist Lauderdale.
  24. LA Lakers: Derek Fisher (Arkansas-Little Rock)
His selection was the apex of surprises on a surprising evening. He signed a 3 year 1.8 million dollar contract. (He was the 3rd rookie to ink a deal after Fuller and Marbury). Jerry seems to have done okay with this choice, giving the Lakers some solid minutes at PG off the bench. Fisher was the 1995-96 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year. On August 3, 1999, the Lakers re-signed Derek Fisher to a seven year, $30 million contract. On July 16, 2004, Golden State signed Derek Fisher to a 6 year, $37 million contract. On July 12, 2006 Golden State traded Derek Fisher to Utah for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod, and Andre Owens. Owens was first signed to a new contract. On July 20, 2007 The LA Lakers signed Derek to a three year 14 million dollar contract.

  25. Utah Jazz: Martin Muursepp (from Estonia 6-9, 238 lbs). He was traded to Miami for a future first round pick. He signed a 3 year deal worth 2.025 million. He started the year on IR. He was once again traded, this time to the Mavericks, along with Sasha Danilovic and Kurt Thomas, for Jamaal Mashburn. Then on January 21, 1999, he was traded to the Bulls along with Mark Bryant and Bubba Wells for Luc Longley, but he was cut in training camp.
  26. Detroit Pistons: Jerome Williams (Georgetown).
Detroit couldn't pass on this talented big man with potential. His game, not attitude, has been compared to Rodman's. I would take a player like that any day. He signed a 3 year deal worth around 1.96 million dollars. It's taken Jerome a couple of years to work his way into the Pistons' game plan, but he is now providing valuable rebounding, defense and energy off the bench. On March 12, 1999 he signed a three year contract extension worth ten million dollars. After being traded to the Raptors, Toronto re-signed Jerome Williams to a 7 year, $40.8 million contract with the 7th year as a mutual option. On August 5, 2004, Chicago traded Jamal Crawford and Jerome Williams to New York for Othella Harrington, Dikembe Mutombo, Cezary Trybanski, and Frank Williams. Prior to the 2005-2006 season, New York released Jerome using the amnesty clause where they have to pay his salary, but it doesn't count against the cap. Jerome retired prior to the 2005-2006 season.

  27. Orlando Magic: Brian Evans (Indiana). He's a good 3-point shooter, joining 3-point threats Nick Anderson, Dennis Scott, Brian Shaw and Penny. Hmmmmmmm I think they could have too much of a good thing. He signed a 3 year deal for 1.58 million dollars. He started 1996 on IR, he never really made it with Orlando and he's now giving it a try in Minnesota.
  28. Atlanta Hawks: Priest Lauderdale. A GREAT pick up for Atlanta with a late first rounder. I thought for sure he would be gone by now. Priest signed a 3 year deal on September 9th worth just under 2 million dollars. The Hawks are obviously bringing him along slowwww. They traded him to Denver on 9/29/97 for Rentzias and a year 2000 second rounder. He was released by Denver prior to the 1999 season.
  29. Chicago Bulls: Travis Knight (UCONN)
On June 11th Chicago renounced their rights to him (coinciding with the 25 million dollar one year contract they gave to Jordan) couldn't afford another big bench warmer I guess. The LA Lakers signed Knight to a one year contract on August 1. Travis is doing well in Southern Cal. He was the third Laker rookie who is getting significant playing time. Travis was selected for the All-Rookie Second Team. He proved valuable, even starting a couple of games in Shaq's absence. Maybe the Bulls COULD have used him. At 7-0, 235 pounds, he's a bit slight for center, but can play PF. He contributes more than his stats as he hustles on every play. Following his rookie year, Boston signed him to a 22 million dollar contract over 7 years! Pretty good after only signing a one year free agent contract as a rookie. On January 21, 1999, Travis was traded back to the Lakers straight up for Tony Battie.

  30. Houston (from Vancouver): Othella Harrington PF (Georgetown)
Houston signed him to a contract, he will get some minutes off the bench as the Rockets are looking for bodies to fill the void in the Barkley trade where they lost 4 big time contributors. Othella looks like he could live up to the Georgetown big man tradition. He's almost averaging 5 points a game, and the Rockets are actually utilizing his skills. He was trade to Vancouver in the deal that brought Steve Francis to Houston prior to the 1999-2000 season. So far he is doing even better in Vancouver than he did in Houston.
  31. Philadelphia: Mark Hendrickson PF (Washington State)
Vancouver signed Mark to a contract in 1997, but then released him before the season.
  32. Philadelphia (from Toronto): Ryan Minor SF (Univ. of Oklahoma)
    Never made the team.
  33. Milwaukee: Moochie Norris PG (West Florida)
He was cut by Milwaukee, but the Griz picked him up in December, rescuing him from the CBA.
  34. Dallas: Shawn Harvey PG (West Virginia State).
  35. Seattle (from Minnesota): Joseph Blair PF/C (Univ. of Arizona)
  36. LA Clippers: Doron Sheffer PG/SG (UCONN) He signed a 3 year contract to play in Israel, with an out clause where he can return to the NBA.
  37. Denver (from Sacramento from New Jersey): Jeff McInnis PG (UNC)
He signed a two year deal with the Nuggets on July 22, but was suspended by the Nuggets indefinately to start the season because he complained about playing time...there won't be any playing at all when you are at home! They lifted his suspension on November 10. Denver released McInnis on December 13th. He had a few good years with the Clippers before signing a three year deal with Portland prior to the 2002-2003 season. On January 21, 2004, Portland traded McInnis along with Ruben Boumtje Boumtje for Darius Miles.
  38. Boston: Steve Hamer C (Tennessee)
He signed a 1 year deal.

  40. Golden State: Marcus Mann PF (Miss. Valley State).
  41. Sacramento: Jason Sasser SF (Texas Tech)
He was traded to Portland for future considerations, but they cut him so he hooked up with the CBA. He had 10 day contracts with San Antonio and Dallas in 1996-97.
  42. Houston (From Vanc. via Wash. via Orl.): Randy Livingston PG (LSU)
He signed a deal with the Rockets, and has produced in the backcourt. They signed him to a contract extension, but cut him prior to the 1997-98 season.
  43. Phoenix: Ben Davis PF (Univ of Arizona)
He signed with Phoenix, but got very little playing time.
  44. Charlotte: Malik Rose PF/SF (Drexel)
Charlotte signed him to a one year deal, then he was picked up by San Antonio in 1997.
  45. Seattle (From NY via Atlanta): Joe Vogel C/PF (Colo. State)
  46. Portland: Marcus Brown SG (Murray State)
He was signed and played a little his rookie year, but the Blazers cut him at season's end. The Grizzlies signed him to a 2 year deal the following year.
  47. Seattle (From Atlanta): Ron Riley SG (Arizona State)
He was traded to Detroit for a 1997 second round pick.
  48. Philadelphia (from Detroit): Jamie Feick PF (Michigan State)
Philly signed him, but he was cut at the end of preseason. Charlotte then signed him to a 10 day contract in January. He didn't stick, but San Antonio signed him for the remainder of the season. Milwaukee signed him for 1997-98.
  49. Orlando (from NY via Minn. and Vanc.): Amal McCaskill C/PF (Marquette)
He signed with the Magic. Washington signed him in his second season, but cut him.
  50. Houston (from Cleveland): Terrell Bell C (Univ. of Georgia) Houston signed him to a contract, but he was cut at the end of the preseason and he signed with the CBA. In 1997-98 he signed with Portland and was also cut.

He won a spot on the team and is playing like the steal in the draft. He almost was a All-Rookie Second Teamer.
  55. Washington (from San Antonio via Charlotte): Ronnie Henderson SG (LSU)
    He was cut in preseason.
  56. Cleveland (from Orlando): Reggie Geary PG (Univ. of Arizona) He signed with the team. for his rookie year, but ended up in San Antonio in his second season.
  57. Seattle: Drew Barry PG/SG (Georgia Tech)
Seattle signed Barry to bring him into camp, but they cut him before the season began. He signed a deal with Atlanta for 1997-98, but was released.
  58. Dallas (from Chicago): Darnell Robinson (Univ. of Arkansas)

Not drafted, but should have been: Carlos Strong, Arthur Long, Chucky Atkins and Dante Calabria.
Carlos Strong signed a contract with the Charlotte Hornets to bring him into training camp with a shot to make the team. Dallas signed him for 1997-98, but cut him. Carlos was also the first selection of the CBA draft selected by Florida.
Donta Bright signed a free agent deal with the New Jersey Nets to come into training camp, but he was released.
Erick Gingold signed a free agent deal with the Bulls in both 1996 and 1997, and he was cut both years.
Arthur Long signed with Detroit for 1997-98.

Two other rookies that were not drafted faired better. Erick Strickland was signed by Dallas as a free agent out of Nebraska. This 6'3" guard has averaged better than 10 points a game and has started for the team on occasion. Also, Darvin Ham was not drafted out of Texas Tech, but he was signed by Denver as a free agent then traded to the Pacers for Jerome Allen. Washington picked him up as a free agent in 1997. He also competed in the 1997 slam dunk competition.
