2000 NBA Draft

June 28, 2000
Minneapolis, Minnesota

  1. New Jersey: Kenyon Martin (Cincinnati) 6-8/230
No surprise here. They do as they...and everyone else...thought they would. Hopefully he will be ready to go by opening day. Martin was named an AP All-American after averaging 18.9 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.4 blocks before going down with the injury. A senior goes #1, who would've thunk it in this era of the diaper dandy. New Jersey signed Kenyon to a 3 year, $11,405,760 with a 4th year worth $5,128,689 at the team's option. New Jersey exercised their option for Kenyon Martin, signing him through 2004. His rookie season was cut short by another broken leg if you can believe it! He was on pace to being named rookie of the year, but he had to settle for being named runner up. He was also named to the 2001 Goodwill Games Team. Martin is one of the key components of the newly revamped Jason Kidd led New Jersey Nets. Kenyon was named to the 2003 Team USA team that participated in the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments. He made his first all-star team in 2004 for the east. On July 15, 2004 New Jersey traded Kenyon Martin to Denver for three first round draft picks. Martin was first re-signed to a 7 year, $92.5 million contract.

  2. Vancouver: Stromile Swift (LSU-sophomore) 6-10/235
He was tops on the Griz list and they weren't going to be persuaded to trade away the pick. Vancouver signed Stromile to a 3 year, $10,204,920 contract with a 4th year worth $4,592,418 at the team's option. After a few years in the league, he still hasn't lived up to his high draft spot. Memphis re-signed Swift to a one year deal on September 30, 2004. Houston rsigned swift to a five year, $30 million contract prior to the 2005-2006 NBA season.

  3. LA Clippers: Darius Miles (High School) 6-9/220
They took potential in Miles over Fizer. They really couldn't have gone wrong with either player. Did I just say the Clippers did a wise thing? Please, no one quote me on this later. So do they keep him or trade him. Do you think having Odom on their team will make the Clips attractive to players now? The Clippers signed him to a 3 year, $9,164,520 contract with a 4th year worth $4,130,701 at the team's option. On July 30, 2002 Cleveland traded Andre Miller and Bryant Stith to the LA Clippers for Darius Miles and Harold Jamison. On January 21, 2004, Cleveland traded Darius Miles to Portland for Jeff McInnis and Ruben Boumtje Boumtje. Miles did well in Portland, for the most part keeping newly acquired Shareef Abdur-Rahim on the bench at the end of his first season as a Blazer. On August 31, 2004, Portland re-signed Miles to a six year deal worth 48 million dollars.

  5. Orlando (from GS): Mike Miller (University of Florida-sophomore) 6-8/210
I'm not a big Miller fan, but it was clear that he was high on the Magic's draft board. They must have decided that Mihm and Pryzbilla were not going to be improvements over what they had at center. Orlando signed him to a 3 year, $7,482,240 contract with a 4th year worth 3,380,457 at the team's option. Orlando exercised their 2003-04 option for Mike Miller. Miller was named rookie of the year after contributing impressively for the Magic. He even worked his way into the starting lineup! He followed up his rookie year success by being named to the 2001 Goodwill Games Team. On February 19, 2002, the day before the trading deadline, Orlando traded Mike Miller, Ryan Humphrey and a 2003 first round pick (from Sacramento) and a 2004 second round pick, to Memphis for Drew Gooden and Gordan Giricek. On October 4, 2003 Memphis signed Mike Miller to a 6 year extension. Miller is now signed through 2009-2010.

  6. Atlanta: DerMarr Johnson (Cincinnati-freshman) 6-9/200
I pegged this one right. DerMarr had moved past Miller on the Hawks wish list so they were happy. He has a tremendous amount of potential and certainly deserves this spot. Atlanta signed DerMarr to a 3 year, $6,795,720 contract with a 4th year worth $3,072,719 at the team's option. He was released prior to the 2003-2004 season.
  7. Cleveland (from Chicago from Washington): Chris Mihm (Texas-junior) 7-0/210
Cleveland and Chicago have made a deal where the Bulls get Crawford and cash for Mihm....kinda weird if you asked me. I know that the Bulls were high on Crawford, but thats a bit much. Now lets get back to the Cleveland pick....Mihm fills the hole in the middle that Cleveland thinks that they have. Cleveland signed Mihm to a 3 year, $6,203,760 contract with a 4th year worth $2,809,494 at the team's option, and they exercised the fourth year option. They shoulda gone for Courtney Alexander (did I say that???). Boston re-signed mihm to a 3 year, $11.4 million contract, then traded him along with Chucky Atkins and Jumaine Jones to the LA Lakers for Gary Payton, Rick Fox, a 1st round draft pick, and $2 million.
  8. Chicago (from Cleveland): Jamal Crawford (Michigan-freshman) 6-6/190
I know his stock was rising, but this just doesn't make sense, its a bit too high. He has to not only live up to, but exceed his potential to make this one worth while. Mihm could have helped fill a huge void in the middle for the Bulls, but everyone says that Krause likes his big PGs. Jamal will miss his sophomore season due to a tron ACL. On September 25, 2000 Chicago signed Crawford to a 3 year, $5,683,560 contract with a 4th year at the team's option worth $2,577,937, they exercised their fourth year option. After Chicago drafted Jay Williams, it seemed Jamal's future with Chicago is uncertain, but when Jay went down in the motorcycle accident Jamal stepped it up for a career year in 2003-2004. On August 4, 2004 Chicago signed Crawford to a seven year, $56 million contract, then traded him along wth Jerome Williams to New York for Othella Harrington, Dikembe Mutombo, Cezary Trybanski, and Frank Williams.

  9. Milwaukee (from Houston): Joel Pryzbilla (Minnesota-sophomore) 7-1/245
This was the player that Houston was hoping to slide down to them. They only needed a little bit of luck to make it happen. He has an outstanding defensive presence with the potential to develop an offensive game. This one really is not a surprise. In fact it is the safest pick of the night so far! The Rockets pull off a real loser trade, giving up Pryzbilla to the Bucks for Collier and next year's #1, top ten protected. Ouch! Milwaukee signed him to a 3 year, $5,224,200 with a 4th year worth $2,373,309 at the team's option, they also exercised their option. On February 15, 2004 New York traded away Keith Van Horn, Michael Doleac, and a 2005 2nd round draft pick and received Tim Thomas and Nazr Mohammed; Milwaukee traded away Tim Thomas and Joel Przybilla and received Keith Van Horn; and Atlanta traded away Nazr Mohammed and received Michael Doleac, Joel Przybilla, and New York's 2005 2nd round draft pick. Portland signed him for the 2004-2005 season.
  10. LA Clippers (from Orlando from Denver): Keyon Dooling (Missouri-sophomore) 6-3/190
The Clippers have acquired Dooling, along with Maggette, Strong and cash (thats the nickels and dimes stuff not a player's name) from the Magic for next year's first round pick. The Magic give up a lot of players, but they also have a guaranteed top three pick (sorry Clips) and move a lot of salary against the cap. I don't like Dooling here no matter who gets the pick though. The Clips signed Keyon to a 3 year, $4,962,960 contract with a 4th year worth $2,256,444 at the team's option. On July 22, 2004, Miami signed Keyon to a teo year, minimum contract. The 2nd year is at Dooling's option. On August 3, 2005 Orlando signed Keyon Dooling to a 3 year, $10 million contract.
  11. Boston: Jerome Moiso (UCLA-sophomore) 6-10/230
I got a Celtics pick right! He's the safe pick right here, with more potential than the other big guys left on the board. His stock had risen, but he still goes at #11! Boston signed Moiso to a 3 year, $4,797,480 contract with a 4th year worth $2,230,952 at the team's option. On August 3, 2001 Boston traded Moiso to Philadelphia for Roshown McLeod and a conditional protected 1st round draft pick. On October 25, 2001 Charlotte traded away Derrick Coleman and cash and received George Lynch, Robert Traylor, Jerome Moiso, and Chris Porter. Philadelphia traded away George Lynch, Robert Traylor, Jerome Moiso, Cedric Henderson, and a conditional 1st round draft pick in 2005 and received Derrick Coleman, Vonteego Cummings, and Corie Blount. Golden State traded away Chris Porter, Vonteego Cummings, and Corie Blount and received Cedric Henderson, a conditional 1st round draft pick in 2005, and cash. On July 16, 2003 Toronto signed him to a 2 year minimum contract.
  12. Dallas: Etan Thomas (Syracuse) 6-9/24
Nellie doesn't go nuts with a pick. They take a nice safe senior....and in case anyone is keeping score he is the second senior taken. Thomas has a polished game, with his strength being defense. Just to let you know that I wasn't way off on a Dallas pick...quoting from my mock draft "Dallas will pick between Oyedeji and Etan Thomas."...just wanted to set the record straight. Dallas signed Etan to a 3 year, $4,479,120 contract with a 4th year at the team's option worth $2,200,942. On July 28, 2004 Washington matched Milwaukee's six year, $38 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Etan Thomas, keeping him with the Wizards.
  13. Dallas (from Orlando): Courtney Alexander (Fresno State) 6-6/190
Courtney slides a wee bit...not too bad...to be the third senior taken. Some of the teams are going to kick themselves for passing on him. He has the ability to contribute right away...who cares about defense. Courtney led the nation in scoring with 25.3 points per game and was named to the Second Team AP All-American. Its a done deal...Dallas has traded next year's first rounder plus cash (again thats the nickels and dimes...) to Orlando. Dallas signed him to a 3 year, $4,255,080 contract with a 4th year worth $2,168,193 at the team's option. He was traded by Dallas with Christian Laettner, Loy Vaught, Etan Thomas, Hubert Dave and cash to the Wizards for Juwan Howard, Obinna Ekezie and Calvin Booth on February 22, 2001. He was traded on draft day 2002 to the Hornets for the rights to Juan Dixon. Sacramento signed Alexander for the 2004-2005 season.

  14. Detroit: Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State) 6-2/190
They made the home town fans happy with this one! Cleaves is the best PG in this draft, and he will prove it too! They might think that they can keep Hill and therefore thought Cleaves would be a better pick over Peterson. Detroit signed Cleaves to a 3 year, $4,042,320 contract with a 4th year worth $2,134,773 at the team's option. On September 7, 2001 Detroit traded Mateen Cleaves to Sacramento for Jon Barry and a future 1st round draft pick, no earlier than 2004. On September 10, 2002 Cleveland traded Jumaine Jones to Sacramento for Mateen Cleaves, but the deal was rescinded due to Mateen failing his physical, so he's still with Sacramento. Boston signed him for the 2003-2004 season, but released him before the season began.
  15. Houston (from Milwaukee): Jason Collier (Georgia Tech) 7-0/250
Do I need to say this is bad....Collier is maybe a late first rounder...a type of player who will be out of the league in 3 years. This is the clear loser pick of the night. I don't think anyone can top it. Woops....it got worse Houston has made a trade for him. Houston signed him to a 3 year, $3,840,240 with a 4th year at the team's option worth $2,099,352. On July 14, 2004 Atlanta re-signed Collier to a two year, 3.15 million dollar contract.
  16. Sacramento: Hidayet Turkoglu (Turkey 6-8)
This is the guy that the Sixers wanted at #20. I think that the Kings made a mistake passing on either Mo Peterson or "Q" Richardson. The question now becomes how long will they have to wait for him to get out of his contract. They waited a while for Pedrag Stojakovich (sp?) Well, they got a deal done, signing him to a 3 year, $3,648,240 contract with a 4th year worth $1,995,611 at the team's option. He has become a valuable member of Sacramento's dangerous rotation. On July 24, 2003, Hedo was traded to the Sacramento Spurs in a four team deal that sent Danny Ferry (from San Antonio) and Scot Pollard (from Sacramento) to the Pacers, Ron Mercer (from Indiana) and Hedo Turkoglu to the Spurs and Brad Miller (from Indiana) to the Kings. On August 2, 2004, Turkoglu joined the Magic, after San Antonio elected not to match Orlando's six year, 38 million dollar offer sheet.
  17. Seattle: Desmond Mason (Oklahoma State) 6-6/205
Desmond Mason leaps ahead of other swing men Peterson and Richardson....thats a bit of a stretch. His stock just kept rising and rising as the draft approached. I believed that he would come back to earth, but nope...here he is. Seattle signed him to a 3 year, $3,465,840 contract with a 4th year worth $1,898,312 at the team's option. He has made a splash in the league, even winning the Slam Dunk Competition in 2001. On February 20, 2002, Seattle trade Gary Payton, along with Desmond Mason to Milwaukee for Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Ronald Murray and a conditional first round pick. On October 27, 2003, Milwaukee signed Desmond Mason to a 3 year, $21.7 million contract extension, signing him through 2006-2007. October 26, 2005 New Orleans traded Jamaal Magloire to Milwaukee for Desmond Mason, a 2006 1st round draft pick, and cash. On July 23, 2007 Milwaukee signed Desmond Mason to a two year, $11 million contract.

  18. LA Clippers (from Toronto via Atlanta, Philly and NY): Quentin Richardson (DePaul-sophomore) 6-5/215
Thats a nice pick this late in the first round. There really weren't any mock draftsters that knew where he was going. Quentin had a breakout year in 2003-2004, what a surprise a contract year. The Clips signed him to a 3 year, $3,292,560 contract with a 4th year worth $1,805,735 at the team's option. On July 29, 2004, The Clippers elected not to match a six year, $45 million offer sheet from Phoenix, making Quentin a Sun. On June 28, 2005 Phoenix traded Quentin Richardson, the rights to Nate Robinson, and cash to New York for Kurt Thomas and the rights to Dijon Thompson.

  19. Charlotte: Jamaal Magloire (Kentucky) 6-10/260
He had moved up to #1 on their draft board, and they were able to get him. Its nice to have another pick right in my mock draft. This big guy has really helped himself out in private workouts proving that he can play center in the NBA...now we'll see him against some real NBA players though. Charlotte signed him to a 3 year, $3,144,360 contract with a 4th year worth $1,726,771 at the team's option. Magloire bumped Elden Campbell to the bench in 2002-2003, and eventually sent him packing. New Orleans signed him to a three year extension on October 29, 2003. Magloire was an all-star for the first time in 2004 for an eastern team that was weak at the center position. He proved his detractors wrong by putting up MVP type numbers for the game. On October 26, 2005 New Orleans traded Jamaal Magloire to Milwaukee for Desmond Mason, a 2006 1st round draft pick, and cash. On July 31, 2006 Milwaukee traded Jamaal Magloire to Portland for Steve Blake, Brian Skinner, and Ha Seung-Jin. On July 17, 2007 New Jersey signed Jamaal to a one year four million dollar contract.

  20. Philadelphia: Craig "Speedy" Claxton (Hofstra) 5-11/180
Claxton leap frogs over Erick Barkley, who many thought was climbing up in the draft. Their top two weren't available (Turkoglu and Desmond Mason) so they had to reach, and not reach too far for Deshawn Stevenson. Philly signed Craig to a 3 year, $3,018,600 contract with a 4th year worth $1,077,942 at the team's option. On July 22, 2003, Golden State signed Speedy Claxton to a 3 year, $9.9 million contract. On February 24, 2005 New Orleans traded Baron Davis to Golden State for Speedy Claxton, Dale Davis, and cash. On July 12, 2006 Atlanta signed Speedy Claxton to a four year, $25 million contract, making him their starting PG.
  21. Toronto (from Minnesota): Morris Peterson (Michigan State) 6-6/210
They just can't pass on this super college player, even for their coveted point guard. I guess that McGrady might not be back... This is my favorite guy in this draft and it hurts me to say that he will receive a slippery slider award. Toronto signed Morris to a 3 year, $2,897,890 with a 4th year worth $1,646,079 at the team's option, which they exercised. On July 30, 2004, Toronto matched New Orleans offer sheet to Peterson, signing him to a three year deal woth 15 million dollars. 22. Dallas (from New York): Donnell Harvey (University of Florida-freshman) 6-7/215
The Knicks stick to their guns and take the guy that they liked...even over a PG in Barkley. They really wanted a rebounder to help them out, but they really-really wanted someone that could make their team. I am not going to bring up Weis....too much... In a late draft day deal, the Knicks traded Harvey and John Wallace to the Mavericks for Erick Strickland and Pete Mickeal...another winner for the Mavs today. Dallas signed Donnell Harvey to a 3 year, $2,781,960 contract with a 4th year worth $1,631,906 at the team's option. On February 21, 2002, in a last minute deal just beating the trade deadline, Dallas sent Harvey, Juwan Howard and Tim Hardaway plus cash and a first round draft pick in the 2002 draft to Denver for Raef LaFrentz, Nick Van Exel, Avery Johnson and Tariq Abdul-Wahad. Orlando signed him to a one year minimum contract for the 2003-2004 season.
  23. Utah (from Miami): Deshawn Stevenson (high school, 6-6/190)
Another pick dead on....thats two in a row....I love it when that happens. We all know they want to replace Hornacek, but will he be able to do it sooner rather than later? They might still need some help in the short term. Utah signed DeShawn to a 3 year, $2.670,720 contract with a 4th year worth $1,616,087 at the team's option. On February 19, 2004, Utah traded Stevenson and a second round pick to Orlando for Gordan Giricek. Orlando re-signed Stevenson to a one year, $1 million contract on August 12, 2004. On August 3, 2006, Washington signed DeShawn Stevenson to a two year, minimum contract with the second year at the player's option. On July 16, 2007 Washington re-signed DeShawn Stevenson to a four year, $16 million contract.
  24. Chicago (from San Antonio): Dalibor Bagaric (Croatia 7-1)
Dalibor leaps in front of Iakovos Tsakalidis. There isn't a ton left on the board, so its not that much of a gamble over say...Mamadou N'diaye of Auburn. Chicago signed Bagaric to a 3 year, $2,563,920 contract with a 4th year worth $1,599,076 at the team's option, they exercised their fourth year option.
  25. Phoenix: Iakovos "Jake" Tsakalidis (Greece 7-2/280)
Finally! A big sigh from the NBA officials that invited him to the draft that he goes in the first round. Phoenix can certainly gamble on him. Can he face up to Shaq and do battle in the paint...only if he can get out of his Greek contract. He's not technically a slider because teams were scared off of him by his contract. An arbitrator ruled that Phoenix draft pick Iakovos Tsakalidis is not contractually bound to AEK Greek...so....Phoenix signed him to a 3 year, $2,461,320 with a 4th year worth $1,580,702. On September 30, 2003 Phoenix traded Bo Outlaw and Jake Tsakalidis to Memphis for Brevin Knight, Robert Archibald, and Cezary Trybanski. On September 10, 2004 Memphis matched Cleveland's three year, $9 million offer sheet to Tsakalidis, keeping him with the Grizzlies.
  26. Denver (from Utah): Mamadou N'diaye (Auburn) 7-0/235
Denver moved up into the first round in hopes of getting a player just like him. They had hoped for Magloire, but will not be disappointed with who they picked up. He helps their team more than their other top choice, Hanno Mottola. Denver signed him to a 3 year, $2,379,600 with a 4th year at the team's option worth $1,529,882. The Clippers signed him for the 2004-2005 season.
  27. Indiana: Primoz Brezec (Slovenia 7-0)
Since they couldn't take Collier, they had to reach for a big foreign prospect. Primoz is signed with Charlotte for the 2004-2005 season.
  28. Portland: Erick Barkley (St. John's-sophomore) 6-0/185
This picks make Portland just more dangerous. He can back up Stoudamire nicely right away! Erick and Mo Pete are neck and neck for the slippery slider award, but I think that we might still have a winner.... This might be the winner pick of the day. Portland signed Barkley to a 3 year, $2,296,800 contract with a 4th year worth $1,478,295 at the team's option. On August 5, 2002 San Antonio traded Antonio Daniels, Charles Smith, and Amal McCaskill for Erick Barkley, Steve Kerr, and a 2nd round draft pick.
  29. LA Lakers: Mark Madsen (Stanford) 6-8/235
Madsen jumps over Mottola and Oyedeji into the first round! I can't believe that I got a Lakers pick right on too! The LA Lakers signed Madsen to a 3 year, $2,280,000 contract with a 4th year worth $1,467,465 at the team's option. He was the first draftee to sign a contract. Mark was named to the 2001 Goodwill Games Team as kind of a surprise invitee, over the likes of Steve Francis. On August 9, 2005 Minnoesta re-signed Mark Madsen to a 5 year, $10 million contract.

    The Second Round

  30. LA Clippers: Marko Jaric (Italy) 6-7/210
Everyone had JaRon Rush here....oh well. On August 12, 2005 the LA Clippers first re-signed Marko Jaric to a 6 year, $40 million contract and then traded Jaric and Lionel Chalmers to Minnesota for Sam Cassell and a 2006 first round draft pick (lottery protected).
  31. Houston (from Dallas from Chicago): Dan Langhi (Vanderbilt) 6-11/215
I thought that this pick smelled funny for Dallas...they traded the pick to Houston for Najera and future considerations. Now I like Langhi and all...as much as anyone can like a second rounder...but I still believe that Mottola is better. Houston signed him to a contract.
  32. Chicago (from GS): A.J. Guyton (Indiana) 6-1/175
Many thought that A.J. could be a first rounder, but this is almost as good. He will probably get just as many minutes as a SG as PG. I had Guyton going to the Bulls in my mock too! Chicago signed him to a contract. Detroit signed him for the 2003-2004 season.
  33. Chicago (From Vancouver): Jake Voskuhl (Connecticut) 6-11/245
I didn't even think he would get drafted. There are still some pretty good guys left to take too.
  34. Chicago (from Atlanta): Khalid El-Amin (Connecticut-junior, 6-3/190
Khalid leaps ahead of Scoonie Penn and into the Bulls' back court. Chicago signed him to a contract where he soon became the starting PG, leaping ahead of first rounder Crawford. Later in the year the Bulls cut him, and he tried to find a home in Boston before signing a one year contract with Dallas for the 2001-2002 season. Miami signed Khalid El-Amin for the 2002-2003 season.
  35. Washington: Mike Smith (Louisiana-Monroe) 6-7/198
It seems like Chris Porter might have been better and about the same size. What about Carrawell too...did they forget he was left? He did well in Portsmouth and Chicago, but really didn't do this well.... They signed him to a one year deal.
  36. New Jersey: Soumaila Samake (Cincinatti Stuff-IBL) 7-1/224
They went big and decided he was who was best...over Jabari Smith.
  37. Miami (from Denver and Cleveland): Eddie House (Arizona State) 6-1/180
He's an NBA gamble, maybe a bit too small to play shooting guard in the NBA. He signed a one year deal with Miami. On August 12, 2003 The LA Clippers signed Eddie House to a 2 year, $1.6 million contract. On July 14, 2004 The Clippers traded Eddie House and Ely to Charlotte for second round picks in 2005 and 2006. On August 11, 2006 New Jersey signed Eddie House to a one year, $1.4 million contract.
  38. Dallas (from Houston): Eduardo Najera (Oklahoma) 6-8/235
Najera has helped himself in the last few weeks and got himself drafted over some other top notch small forwards. Dallas and Houston swapped second round picks, and Houston throws in future considerations. Dallas signed him to 1 year, minimum contract with a 2nd year at the team's option. They re-signed him for the 2002-2003 season. On August 24, 2004, Dallas traded Eduardo Najera, Christian Laettner, the draft rights to Luis Flores, the draft rights to Mladen Sekularac, a first round draft pick and cash to Golden State for Erick Dampier, Evan Eschmeyer, and the draft rights to Steve Logan. On February 24, 2005 Denver traded Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Rodney White to Golden State for Eduardo Najera, Luis Flores, and a 1st round draft pick in 2007 originally from Dallas (top 7 protected).
  39. New York (from Boston): Lavor Postell (St. John's) 6-6/210
This is who they hoped to be left on the board...and I got a second rounder right in my mock! New York signed him to a deal and re-signed him for the 2001-2002 season.
  40. Atlanta: Hanno Mottola (Utah) 6-10/240
He will be a runner up for the slippery slider award, but won't win...there can be only one winner now...Olumide Oyedeji. Atlanta signed him to a one year deal with a second year as the team's option.
  41. San Antonio (From Dallas): Chris Carrawell (Duke) 6-6/220
He might actually take over their SF slot some day. He is good enough to be a first rounder, for sure! He's a slippery slider along with our buddies Barkley, Peterson and Mottola. Thats a nice college all-star team. San Antonio signed Chris to a one year deal with a second lyear at the team's option.
  42. Seattle: Olumide Oyedeji (Nigeria) 6-11/240
This is a guy that the Sonics could have taken at #17. Congrats Mr. Oyedeji, you are the slippery Slider of the Year! What are you going to do? "I'm going to the Space Needle!" They signed him to a one year contract with a second at the team's option.
  43. Milwaukee: Michael Redd (junior-Ohio State) 6-5/195
Not much to say here...we're starting to run out of dark horse candidates now. Milwaukee signed him to a one year contract with a second year at the team's option. After a few years as a work horse, Redd emerged as the team leader after Ray Allen was traded away. He became an all-star for the first time in 2004, and he was also named to the All-NBA Third Team and the 2004 All-Interview Second Team. On August 13, 2005, Milwaukee re-signed Michael Redd to a six year, $90.1 million contract
  44. Detroit: Brian Cardinal (Purdue) 6-8/230
He has hustled his way into the draft. Detroit likes scrappy players that don't necessarily have skills but play with heart and hustle. Detroit signed him to a contract. On September 9, 2001 Detroit re-signed him to a two year, $1.1 million contract. On July 14, 2004, Memphis signed him to a six year, $37 million contract.
  45. Sacramento: Jabari Smith (LSU) 6-11/250
I hate to say it but this guy is going to tank. Sacramento signed him to a one year contract.
  46. Toronto: Deeandre Hulett (College of the Sequoias) 6-8/200
He's actually one year removed from school, having declared early last year and not getting drafted. I think the Raptors are using last year's draft press guide....
  47. Boston (from Seattle): Josip Sesar (Croatia) 6-4
Boston traded two future second rounders for his rights.
  48. Philadelphia: Mark Karcher (Temple-junior) 6-5/220
I didn't figure him to be drafted, in fact I thought that Philly would tag another Temple Player, Lamont Barnes. Philly signed him to a contract.
  49. Milwaukee (From Charlotte): Jason Hart (Syracuse) 6-3/181
He moved ahead of Scoonie Penn! I like this guy and think he is a perfect match for Milwaukee. Unfortunately, Ed Cota might not make it in the draft since I had Milwaukee taged as his last hope. Milwaukee signed him to a one year contract with a second year at the team's option. On July 14, 2004, Charlotte signed Hart to a three year $4.95 million contract with a player opt-out after the 2nd year. On August 2, 2005 Charlotte traded Jason to Sacramento for a future second round draft pick.
  50. Utah (from NY): Kaniel Dickens (Idaho) 6-8/235
He was busy with private workouts and that helped elevate him over some other players (ie Chris Porter) with better college careers. Utah signed him to a contract.
  51. Minnesota: Igor Rakocevic (Yugoslavia) 6-2/184
Shame on you Minnesota, you could have taken a good player still!
  52. Miami: Ernest Brown (Indian Hills CC-sophomore) 6-11/250
This guy is a real enigma and should feel lucky to be drafted. He might never make the team though. Miami signed him to a contract for the 2001-2002 season, but he was waived prior to the 2002-2003 season.
  53. Denver (From Phoenix): Dan McClintock (Northern Arizona) 7-0/245
Another second round pick right in my mock draft! He will work out with N'diaye. Denver signed him to a contract.
  54. LA Lakers (from San Antonio): Cory Hightower (Indian Hills CC-sophomore) 6-8/200
The Lakers traded two future second round picks for his rights. The LA Lakers signed Corey to a 1 year, minimum contract with a 2nd year at the team's option.
  55. Golden State (from Utah): Chris Porter (Auburn) 6-7/220
Porter deserved better than this. Does anyone else remember when he was ranked as the #1 player in the country? He signed a one year deal with the Warriors. On October 25, 2001 Charlotte traded away Derrick Coleman and cash and received George Lynch, Robert Traylor, Jerome Moiso, and Chris Porter. Philadelphia traded away George Lynch, Robert Traylor, Jerome Moiso, Cedric Henderson, and a conditional 1st round draft pick in 2005 and received Derrick Coleman, Vonteego Cummings, and Corie Blount. Golden State traded away Chris Porter, Vonteego Cummings, and Corie Blount and received Cedric Henderson, a conditional 1st round draft pick in 2005, and cash.
  56. Indiana: Jacquay Walls (Colorado) 6-2/170
    Boring...
  57. Detroit (from Portland): James "Scoonie" Penn (Ohio St.) 6-0/180
Porter and Penn can join the Slippery Slider team!
  58. New York (from Dallas): Pete Mickeal (Cincinnati) 6-7/220
Mickeal is the winner of the last player drafted award. You will receive the right to be cut by several teams and win a job through training camps! This pick is a throw in with the Donnell Harvey/John Wallace for Erick Strickland deal. New York signed him to a contract.
