2001 NBA Draft

June 27, 2001
New York City--The Theater at Madison Square Garden

  1. Washington: Kwame Brown 6-11/250 (Glynn Academy High School, GA)
No surprise here so far! For the last couple of days we thought they would take Kwame and they did! There were quite a few people who were still holding out hope that Battier would go first, but nope. This is the first time a high schooler has been picked number one, and he follows in the footsteps of Garnett, Kobe and Darius Miles. It also looks like the Wiz will keep their man. Washington signed Kwame to a 3 year, $11,924,280 contract with a 4th year worth $5,361,873 at the team's option. Washington exercised their fourth year option. On August 3, 2005 in a sign-and-trade, Washington re-signed Kwame Brown to a three year, $25 million contract with a team option for the 3rd year and re-signed Laron Profit to a 1 year contract and then traded them to the LA Lakers for Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins.

  2. LA Clippers-traded to Chicago: Tyson Chandler 7-1/230 (Compton, CA--High School)
Two picks down and two high school players have been taken. The suspense builds as to when will a college player be drafted! I'm a little surprised at which high schooler was picked as I thought Curry was a better prospect and could replace Kandy Man. His critics say he might not actually make it in the NBA! But on the other hand he has good offensive skills and can block shots, as long as he is playing the small forward position....waitaminnit....don't they already have a couple of guys there? Look out Darius, Corey and Lamar! The Clips traded Chandler and the Brian Skinner to Chicago for Elton Brand! I don't know, but I'd say Brand is worth more than that! Chicago signed Chandler to a 3 year, $10,668,720 contract with a 4th year worth $4,801,102 at the team's option. Chicago exercised their 4th year option. On September 1, 2005 Chicago re-signed Tyson Chandler to a six year, $64 million contract. On July 14, 2006 New Orleans traded P.J. Brown and J.R. Smith to Chicago for Tyson Chandler.

  3. Atlanta (traded to Memphis/Vancouver): Pau Gasol 7-0/220 (Spain)
Atlanta has traded this pick to Memphis/Vancouver along with Lorenzen Wright and Brevin Knight for Shareef Abdur-Rahim. Gasol said he would play this year if he went top 6, otherwise he would have to sit out a year due to his contract. I can't believe that Gasol still went over Curry! He is the fastest and highest climber this year. Gasol is the highest international pick ever! Previously Dirk Nowitzki was highest at number nine. On September 18, 2001 Memphis signed Gasol to a 3 year, $9,581,040 contract with a 4th year worth $4,318,481 at the team's option. He had a phenomenal rookie year, coming out of the gate strong and never looking back. He was rewarded by being named rookie of the year. Memphis exercised their 2004-2005 option on Gasol. On October1, 2004, Memphis signed Gasol to a six year contract extension through 2011-2012.

  4. Chicago: Eddy Curry 6-11/285 (Thornwood High-High School)
Curry is the real deal and I think just as good of a player as Kwame. Some, myself included, have compared his young frame to Shaq's, but its still a little too early for that. Curry seemed to be on the top of Chicago's wish list all along and he can really play center, not just play it as a PF out of position. So did Krause just work some voodoo! Hmmmmm I'm only 50% so far on my mock draft, and it only gets harder from here on out, so I guess you better not listen to me. By the way we are still waiting for the first player to be picked that has played any college ball! Chicago signed Curry to a 3 year, $8,637,840 contract with a 4th year worth $3,896,402 at the team's option. Chicago exercised their fourth year option.

  5. Golden State: Jason Richardson 6-6/220 (Michigan State-Sophomore)
Their first choice seemed to be Tyson Chandler, but don't you think that they would have grabbed Eddie Griffin. I'm thinking he can actually be a better player than the high school guys? Although, he kinda plays similar to Antawn doesn't he? Jason Richardson kind of crowds their team too, but he could be one of the top 3 rookies if he gets his playing time, and there is no denying his talent and future. My only problem....if they are just going on best player they shoulda taken Griffin. I don't know if anyone had Richardson going quite this high! So who made the bet that Richardson would have been the first college player taken? Nope...you sit down you know you had Battier. It looks like they will move Hughes to PG and let Richardson have the shooting guard job. On August 24, 2001 Golden State signed Richardson to a 3 year, $7,822,080 contract with a 4th year worth $3,534,018 at the team's option. GS exercised their fourth year option. On November 1, 2004, Golden State signed him to a six year extension worth 70 million dollars.

  6. Memphis: Shane Battier 6-8/215 (Duke-Senior)
I hopped right on the Memphis bandwagon right off....the Memphis Grizzlies...it doesn't have a ring does it? Well dang! I actually had Shane going here in my mock draft! Cool! Richardson might have been their guy, but they must have had to think real hard about Griffin. Shane is the first senior taken...and the second college player. Good for him. If he's not the rookie of the year this year then I don't know who will be. Memphis signed him on July 10, 2001 to a 3 year, $7,104,720 contract with a 4th year worth $3,212,402 at the team's option. Memphis exercised their 2004-2005 option on Battier. They also signed him to a six year contract extension. On July 12, 2006 Memphis traded Shane Battier to Houston for Stromile Swift and the rights to their 2006 first round draft pick (#8) Rudy Gay.

  7. New Jersey-traded to Houston: Eddie Griffin 6-9/205 (Seton Hall-Freshman)
We have our first candidate for the slippery slider award this year....didn't Eddie Griffin used to be a number one pick? He stops his sliding in New Jersey. There was still a chance they could have picked White, but I think that this can be seen as a steal a couple years from now. New Jersey traded Eddie Griffin to the Rockets for their three first rounders: Jefferson, Collins Brandon Armstrong. Minnesota signed Griffin for the 2004-2005 season. On August 22, 2005 Minnesota re-signed Eddie Griffin to a two year, $3.8 million contract.

  8. Cleveland: De Sagana Diop 7-0/305 (Oak Hill Academy, Virginia-High School)
I thought that they would have to pick between Rodney White and Joe Johnson....two guys that they liked, but they went with the gamble and took the high schooler. If he works out for them then they will look like geniuses? Diop comes from Senegal via Oak Hill Academy. Don't they already have a center with a bad foot though? He's a raw talent, only 18 and won't turn 19 until January, that they hope to mold. Cleveland signed Diop to a 3 year, $5,941,920 contract with a 4th year worth $2,695,165 at the team's option. Cleveland exercised their fourth year option. On August 19, 2005 Dallas signed DeSagana Diop to a 3 year, $6.5 million contract.
  9. Detroit: Rodney White 6-8/230 (Charlotte-Freshman)
Wasn't White one of the player's that was moving up the draft boards? This is a wee bit of a slip for him and boy are the Pistons lucky to grab him. Now they don't have to make the choice between Johnson and Radmanovich and they can go with someone they clearly liked better. Detroit signed White to a 3 year, $5,461,680 with a 4th year worth $2,481,242 at the team's option. On October 1, 2002 Detroit traded Rodney White to Denver for Mengke Bateer, Don Reid and Milwaukee's 2003 1st round pick. On October 5, 2004, Denver re-signed White to a two year, $3.8 million contract. On February 24, 2005 Denver traded Nikoloz Tskitishvili and Rodney White to Golden State for Eduardo Najera, Luis Flores, and a 1st round draft pick in 2007 originally from Dallas (top 7 protected).
  10. Boston: Joe Johnson 6-8/225 (Arkansas-Sophomore)
Johnson was right at the top of their wish list, along with Gasol. They would have probably settled for Murphy, and are glad they don't have to think about choosing Radmanovich, cuz they really like Joe better than all of them. He's the best true small forward prospect and can let Pierse play SG and Antoine play PF. Did I say he can shoot? Boston signed him to a 3 year, $5,188,560 contract with a 4th year worth $2,358,954 at the team's option. Phoenix exercised their fourth year option. On August 19, 2005 in a sign-and-trade, Phoenix re-signed Joe Johnson to a 5 year, $69.8 million contract and traded him to Atlanta for Boris Diaw, a 2006 1st round draft pick (lottery protected in 2006, top 3 protected in 2007), and a 1st round draft pick via either the LA Lakers or Boston.

  11. Boston (from Denver): Kedrick Brown 6-7/220 (Okaloosa-Walton Community College, FL-Sophomore)
So the rumors were true and he did have a deal to go to the Celts. Now are they gonna keep him or trade him? Waitaminnit....doesn't he play the same position as Joe Johnson....hmmmm. He signed a 3 year, $4,929,120 contract with a 4th year worth $2,332,388 at the team's option. Boston exercised their fourth year option.
  12. Seattle: Vladimir Radmanovic 6-9/230 (Yugoslavia)
It can be argued that he has moved up faster and higher than any other prospect, except maybe Gasol, but we thought he would be a lottery pick all along, Vladimir was a second rounder before the Chicago camp. So Seattle said they didn't want to go away from the draft without a center. I guess they will have to do that with their second round picks. They have broken Houston's heart in the process now too. On September 7, 2001 Seattle signed Radmanovic to a 3 year, $4,682,640 contract with a 4th year worth $2,300,984 at the team's option. Seattle exercised their fourth year option. On July 12, 2006 the Lakers signed Vladimir Radmanovic to a five year $31 million contract.
  13. Houston-traded to New Jersey: Richard Jefferson 6-7/222(Arizona-Junior)
The rumor in Houston was Richard was their number two choice to Radmanovich. I guess the rumors were true believe it or not! They still think that they can get a big man a little bit later this round, so the center prospects are a reach in the lottery here. Although, Haywood was invited to attend the draft while Jefferson was not. Jefferson goes to the Nets in the Eddie Griffin deal. New Jersey signed him to a three year, $4,448,520 contract with a 4th year worth $2,266,794 at the team's option. NJ exercised their fourth year option. He was named to the 2004 USA Men's Basketball Team that will compete in the Athens Summer Olympics. On August 13, 2004, New Jersey signed Jefferson to a six year, $76 million contract extension.

  14. Golden State (from Indiana): Troy Murphy 6-11/240 (Notre Dame-Junior)
Golden State did the right thing and took the best prospect on the board...and the best PF. He's a great inside out player and could be a real NBA star in a year or two! That was a no-brainer! On August 24, 2001 Golden State signed him to a 3 year, $4,226,040 contract with a 4th year worth $2,231,808 at the team's option. GS exercised their fourth year option. On November 1, 2004, Golden State signed Murphy to a six year extension worth 60 million dollars. On January 17, 2007 Indiana traded Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarujnas Jasikevicius, and Josh Powell to Golden State for Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Ike Diogu, and Keith McLeod.

  15. Orlando: Steven Hunter 6-11/224 (DePaul-Sophomore)
Hunter vaulted himself from obscurity into a top 15 pick, pretty much based on his play in Chicago. He leaps over Woods and Haywood....and Bradley for that matter. I don't think I like this pick, but whoever they took would have been a risk. His 4 days in Chicago covered up 2 years of just solid college play and pushed him over the top. Orlando signed Hunter to a 3 year, $4,014,720 contract with a 4th year worth $2,194,643 at the team's option. On July 23, 2004, Orlando traded Drew Gooden, Steven Hunter, and the rights to Anderson Varejao to Cleveland for Tony Battie and two second round draft picks. On August 20, 2004 Phoenix signed Steven Hunter to a one year, minimum contract with a second year at the player's option. On August 11, 2005, Philadelphia signed Steven to a five year, $16.5 million contract.
  16. Charlotte: Kirk Haston 6-9/242 (Indiana-Junior)
Here's our first reach of the draft. Haston was thought to go in the late 20s and now he jumps up into a bigger contract. I don't like this pick either, I think that conventional wisdom had them going with someone like Forte, and Michael Bradley is a similar player as Haston...but better. The last two picks are not going to go down in the books as smart ones, I should think. Its funny, up until that point I'd say drafting was going pretty solid. Charlotte signed Kirk to a 3 year, $3814,080 contract with a 4th year worth $2,086,363 at the team's option.
  17. Toronto: Michael Bradley 6-10/245 (Villanova-Junior)

Toronto has done it again! They have got another steal...that makes it two years in a row, following up on the excellent choice of Morris Peterson. Bradley is probably as good as Troy Murphy, maybe even better. They can both shoot and I think that Bradley has a little better inside presence. On July 24, 2001 Toronto signed him to a three year deal worth $3,623,400 contract with a 4th year worth $1,984,573 at the team's option. On July 29, 2004, Orlando signed him to a contract. On February 23, 2005 Sacramento traded Chris Webber, Matt Barnes, and Michael Bradley to Philadelphia for Kenny Thomas, Corliss Williamson, and Brian Skinner.
  18. Houston (from Orlando from Phoenix from New York)-traded to New Jersey: Jason Collins 6-11/255 (Stanford-Sophomore)
Some people thought Collins was sliding, but I think he was worth a look even at the bottom of the lottery. Houston gets their man....and he's a big one, and can develop into a big time NBA Center. Collins goes to the Nets in the Eddie Griffin trade. New Jersey signed Collins to a 3 year, $3,442,320 contract with a 4th year worth $1,887,864 at the team's option. NJ exercised their fourth year option. On October 31, 2004, New Jersey signed Jason Collins to a four year, $24 million contract extension.

  19. Portland: Zach Randolph 6-9/270 (Michigan State-Freshman)
The Blazers were looking big and they got a big one at that! He doesn't have a lot of experience, and he has a lot of questions, but he could develop into one of the top 3 or 4 power forwards in this class. The Blazers decided to add another diaper dandy, choosing a freshman over one of the two big senior centers still on the board. Heck, I'm not gonna argue with them cuz Randolph's upside could be much greater than those two (those of us who talk drafts just love that word "upside"). On August 21, 2001 Portland signed Zach to a 3 year, $3,287,160 with a 4th year worth $1,805,126 at the team's option. Portland exercised their fourth year option on Randolph. He was named the 2004 Most Improved Player. On November 1, 2004, Portland signed Zach to a six year, $84 million contract extension.

  20. Cleveland (from Miami)-traded to Orlando: Brendan Haywood 7-0/270 (UNC-Senior)
Even though he was invited to attend the draft, and was the last player there who was taken, this isn't a slide. I actually had him at 19 and that was a gamble. Cleveland gets another big man to complement Diop, or are they gonna trade him? Haywood was traded to Orlando for Michael Doleac. A pretty even swap in my book. Then on July 31, 2001 Orlando traded his rights to Washington for Laron Profit and a future 1st round draft pick. On August 3, 2001 Washington signed Haywood to a 3 year, $3,155,880 contract with a 4th year worth $1,735,305 at the team's option. Washington exercised their fourth year option. On November 1, 2004, Washington signed Haywood to a five year, $25 million contract extension.
  21. Boston (via Phoenix from Denver): Joseph Forte 6-4/185 (UNC-Sophomore)
They were looking for a PG, but Forte was just too good of a talent to pass up. Plus, Boston really likes their shooters. He is a steal this late in the draft and I think he is a top ten player, if not top five. Boston signed Forte to a 3 year, $3,029,640 contract with a 4th year worth $1,721,014 at the team's option. On July 20, 2002 Boston traded Kenny Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko, and Joseph Forte to Seattle for Vin Baker and Shammond Williams. Wow! Seattle released him prior to the 2003-2004 season!
  22. Orlando (from Houston from Milwaukee): Jeryl Sasser 6-7/194 (SMU-Senior)
This is kind of a surprise, but he might work out. If he can play PG then he will be a dangerous weapon. He leaps over the other PG prospects in Tinsley, Cook and Parker. Its probably only a leap of about 10 spots or so, and a lot of teams were looking at him, I just thought it would be a little longer before someone took him. I had him as a first rounder a few weeks ago, if I had left him there I would be looking like a genius now! He's the third senior taken behind Battier and Haywood. There's another bet that you would have lost wouldn't you? Sasser over Woods or Tinsley, or even Alvin Jones. Orlando signed Sasser to a 3 year, $2,908,440 contract with a 4th year worth $1,706,128 at the team's option.
  23. Houston (from Orlando from Dallas)-traded to New Jersey: Brandon Armstrong 6-4/188 (Pepperdine-Junior)
Alright here's the big surprise that always happens. I didn't even have him being drafted in my mock! Armstrong goes to New Jersey along with Jefferson and Collins for Eddie Griffin. I wonder what the Nets were thinking here anyhow. New Jersey signed Brandon to a 3 year, $2,792,160 contract with a 4th year worth $1,689,601 at the team's option.
  24. Utah: Raul Lopez 6-0/180 (Spain)
Some people saw him being drafted late, but there were rumors that Utah was looking at him, but if they were going to take a foreign PG, then why not Tony Parker? I think Parker is still a second rounder, but Tinsley has got to be a better pick than Lopez who is locked into his contract for the next several years. Maybe they just don't want to pay him for a couple of years. On September 26, 2002 Utah signed Lopez to a three year, $2,796,840 with a fourth year worth $1,744,313 at the team's option. They picked up their fourth year option on Lopez. On August 2, 2005 the largest trade in NBA history occurred with 5 teams and 13 players involved. In a sign-and-trade, Boston first re-signed Antoine Walker to a 6 year, $53 million contract. Boston traded away Antoine Walker and received Curtis Borchardt, Qyntel Woods, the draft rights to Albert Miralles, a 2nd round draft pick in 2006, a 2nd round draft pick in 2007 or 2008, and cash from Miami. Miami traded away Eddie Jones, Qyntel Woods, Rasual Butler, the rights to Albert Miralles, a 2nd round draft pick in 2006, a 2nd round draft pick in 2007 or 2008, and cash and received Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, James Posey, Andre Emmett, and the draft rights to Roberto Duenas. Memphis traded away Jason Williams, James Posey, Andre Emmett, and Greg Ostertag and received Eddie Jones and Raul Lopez. New Orleans traded away the draft rights to Roberto Duenas and received Rasual Butler and Kirk Snyder. Utah traded away Curtis Borchardt, Raul Lopez, and Kirk Snyder and received Greg Ostertag. Memphis then released him.
  25. Sacramento: Gerald Wallace 6-7/210 (Alabama-Freshman)
Wallace was one of three players I thought Sacramento was looking at along with Hassell and Arenas. It must have been a tough last minute choice for them. Is anyone surprised they didn't go overseas this year? Parker was still around to be drafted! On July 6, 2001 Sacramento signed Wallace to a 3 year, $2,573,160 contract with a 4th year worth $1,652,454 at the team's option. Sacramento exercised their fourth year option. Wallace was picked in the 2004 expansion draft making him one of the first members of the Charlotte Bobcats. On July 11, 2007 Charlotte re-signed Gerald Wallace to a six year, $57 million contract. On July 19, 2007 Charlotte re-signed Gerald Wallace to a six year, $57 million contract with the sixth year at the player's option.
  26. Philadelphia: Samuel Dalembert 6-11/230 (Seton Hall-Sophomore)
He barely held on to the first round slot that he was hoping for, bumping Loren Woods in the process. Philly was looking at him pretty hard for a while, but I thought they backed off. I think they would still have taken Wallace if he was on the board. Philadelphia signed Dalembert to a 3 year, $2,487,960 contract with a 4th year worth $1,599,550 at the team's option. Philly exercised their fourth year option. He had a great breakout season in 2003-2004. On August 2, 2005 Philadelphia re-signed Samuel Dalembert to a 6 year, $58 million contract.
  27. Memphis (from LA Lakers via New York): Jamaal Tinsley 6-3/185 (Iowa State-Senior)-traded to Indiana

Jamaal becomes the third PG picked, taken behind Jeryl Sasser and Raul Lopez....thats a surprise alright. Tinsley fans can take solace in the fact that he still went ahead of Omar Cook and Tony Parker. Tinsley was the fourth and final senior to be drafted in the first round. I for one did not buy into the Parker hype. Tinsley was traded to Indiana for a future number one pick. On July 19, 2001 Indiana signed him to a three year $2,416,080 contract with a 4th year worth $1,545,441 at the team's option. Indiana exercised their fourth year option. On OCtober 29, 2004, Indiana signed Jamaal to a 6 year, $40 million contract extension.

Parker slips into the first round...barely...just behind Tinsley. They decide to go for a PG instead of one of the swing men they mighta shoulda taken like Gilbert Arenas or Trenton Hassell. Parker was the fourth international player taken in the first round this year. Four international players were also drafted in the first round last year. San Antonio signed him to a three year, $2,401,080 with a 4th year at the team's option worth $1,545,441. San Antonio picked up their 04-05 option for Tony Parker. On November 1, 2004, San Antonio signed Parker to a six year, $66 million contract extension.

We now have an official winner for the slippery slider award. Loren Woods step up and accept your Slippery Slider Trophy! Some other guys still left on the board that might have been picked earlier: Omar Cook, Gilbert Arenas, Trenton Hassell, Jeff Trepagnier and Alvin Jones.

  29. *Minnesota forfeits their first round pick.

    Second Round

  30. Chicago: Trenton Hassell 6-5/205 (Austin Peay-Junior)
Chicago had a lot of talent to pick from, and they didn't really need to get another center prospect. Hassell could not only make this team, but contribute valuable minutes as a rookie. Chicago signed him to a contract. On August 4, 2004, Minnesota martched Portland's 6 year, $27 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Hassell, allowing him to remain a valuable member of the T-Wolves.
  31. Golden State: Gilbert Arenas 6-3/188 (Arizona-Sophomore)
The Warriors obviously decided to draft based on talent rather than need as they are pretty much stacked at this position. Arenas does have first round talent. Golden State signed him to a one year deal. He became one of the hottest free agent commodities after only two years in the league. He was courted by several team in the 2003 offseason, but he signed Washington's 6 year, $63.75 million offer sheet, and the Warriors were unable to match it so he became a member of the post-Jordan Wizards. Arenas made his all-star debut for the Wizards in 2005, and was named to the All-NBA Third Team that year as well. He was again an all-star in 2006 and back on the All-NBA Third Team. On 2007 Gilbert was named to the All-NBA Second team after having a statistically brilliant season, which was unfortunately cut short due to an injury late in the year.

  32. Orlando (from Washington): Omar Cook 6-1/189 (St. Johns-Freshman)
I got a late pick right on in my mock as I had Cook going to Orlando and giving them their backup PG that they were looking for! The Magic trade Cook to Denver for a future first round pick. Denver signed him to a one year deal, but released him before the season began, but Dallas signed him giving him another shot!
  33. Memphis: Will Solomon 6-1/172 (Clemson-Junior)
He was a bubble player and there was a good chance he wouldn't even get drafted. They signed him to a contract.
  34. Atlanta-traded to Houston: Terence Morris 6-9/215 (Maryland-Senior)
He might bave been a first rounder last year, but he does well to go this high in the second round. He can still turn it around be a solid NBA player though. Atlanta traded Morris to Houston for a future first rounder. This makes sense cuz Houston has kind of had their eye on him for a while. On September 7, 2001 Houston signed him to a 2 year, $1 million contract. Morris signed with the Clippers for the 2004-2005 season.
  35. New Jersey: Brian Scalabrine 6-10/240 (USC-Senior)
New Jersey is really stockpiling players. He has good range for a big man, so we'll see how this works out for him. New Jersey signed him to a contract. On August 2, 2005 Boston signed Brian Scalabrine to a 5 year, $15 million contract.
  36. Cleveland: Jeff Trepagnier 6-4/195 (USC-Senior)
Cleveland gets a nice athletic player to complement their new big men! Cleveland signed him to a one year, minimum contract.
  37. Philadelphia (from LA Clippers): Damone Brown 6-9/202 (Syracuse-Senior)
Philly gets a nice 4 year college player in Damone. This is just about where he belongs. By the way there are three big...I mean big...men left on the board: Loren Woods, Alvin Jones and Ken Johnson....all rumored to be first rounders at one time or another. Philadelphia signed Brown to a 2 year, minimum contract with the 2nd year at the team's option.
  38. Detroit: Mehmet Okur 6-10/225 (Turkey)
The Griz were looking at him pretty hard, but he goes to Detroit. Utah offered him a six year deal worth 50 million dollars. On July 27, 2004, Detroit opted not to match the offer, so he became a member of the Jazz.
  39. New York (from Boston via Seattle): Michael Wright 6-7/238 (Arizona-Junior)
There were a lot of questions about him...his size, his shooting....if he would get drafted at all. New York signed him to a contract. Woods is the last Arizona player left on the board. Jefferson---Arenas---Wright---Woods.
  40. Seattle (from Denver via Boston): Earl Watson 6-1/184 (UCLA)
I had Kenny Satterfield, Horace Jenkins and Rashad Philips over Watson, but he has come on strong recently. I had them getting a PG, just not this one. Seattle signed him to a contract. On July 18, 2002 Memphis signed Earl Watson to a 3 year, $4 million contract. On February 23, 2006, in a four team trade, Denver traded away Earl Watson, Voshon Lenard, Bryon Russell, and a second round draft pick and received Reggie Evans, Ruben Patterson, and Charles Smith; Seattle traded away Vitaly Potapenko and Reggie Evans and received Earl Watson, Bryon Russell, and a second round draft pick; Portland traded away Ruben Patterson, Sergei Monia, and Charles Smith and received Voshon Lenard and Brian Skinner; Sacramento traded away Brian Skinner and received Vitaly Potapenko and Sergei Monia.
  41. Indiana: Jamison Brewer 6-4/178 (Auburn-Sophomore)
In the last couple of days I had him slipping and not being drafted at all. He should have still stayed in school though. Indiana signed him to a 2 year contract.
  42. Seattle (from Orlando)-traded to Washington: Bobby Simmons 6-7/235 (DePaul-Junior)
Another bubble player gets drafted in a solid position. This one is kind of a mystery though, as Simmons really hasn't excelled in any area of the game. The Sonics traded him to the Wizards for Pedrag Drobnjak. Washington signed Simmons to a 1 year contract. On August 8, 2005 Milwaukee signed Bobby Simmons to a 5 year, $47 million contract.
  43. New York (from Seattle): Eric Chenowith 7-2/264 (Kansas-Senior)
I wasn't even sure if he would get drafted! And over Woods, not to mention Alvin Jones who seemed to have done much better than Chenowith in workouts. Ahhhhh, New York finally has found their replacement for Frederick Weis. They released him before the season even started, but Sacramento signed him.
  44. Dallas (from Houston): Kyle Hill 6-2/180 (Eastern Illinois-Senior)
He was second in the nation in scoring with 23.8 points a game. He is a real sleeper I guess.
  45. Chicago (from Charlotte): Sean Lampley 6-7/213 (California-Senior)
Lampley could have gone a little higher, as he was improving his draft status in recent weeks, but at least he gets the call relatively early! On October 1, 2001 Chicago traded the rights to Lampley to Miami for a future 2nd round draft pick, then Miami signed him to a contract.
  46. Minnesota: Loren Woods 7-1/225 (Arizona-Senior)
I am baffled at why he fell so hard and so fast. About a week ago he was supposed to be going to Detroit at #9, then the Magic liked him with one of their later first rounders as a fallback. I don't get it at all. Usually the Slippery Slider Award isn't as tragic as this year's recipient. This is really gonna be hard on him! Minnesota signed him to a one year minimum contract, then re-signed him for 2002-2003. He played for Miami in 2003-3004, then the Charlotte Bobcats selected him in the expansion draft in June, 2004. Toronto signed him to a 2 year deal worth $1.7 million on August 18, 2004. On August 15, 2006, Sacramento signed him to a one year deal.
  47. Denver (from Toronto): Ousmane Cisse 6-8/240 (St. Jude High School in Alabama)
They will gamble on his knee injury and potential and inexperience.
  48. Memphis (from New York): Antonis Fotsis 6-9/210 (Greece)
He could have gone higher, and could turn out to be a great NBA player when he decided to come over....maybe this year...who knows?
  49. Miami: Ken Johnson 6-11/227 (Ohio State-Senior)
I had him slipping behind Alvin Jones, but maybe Jones won't even get drafted!
  50. Portland: Rouben Boumtje-Boumtje 7-1/245 (Georgetown-Senior)
Thats two big bodies that the Blazers have picked up...not too bad. Portland signed him to a contract.
  51. Phoenix: Alton Ford 6-9/271 (Houston-Freshman)
I didn't believe that anyone would take a chance on him. Phoenix signed 2nd Ford to a 1 year, minimum contract with a 2nd year at the team's option.
  52. Milwaukee: Andre Hutson 6-7/244 (Michigan State-Senior)
  53. Utah: Jarron Collins 6-10/252 (Stanford-Senior)
Both Collins boys get drafted! I thought there was a chance he might have to stay at home and watch his brother play. Utah signed him to a one year contract. They re-signed him through 2006. On July 20, 2006 Utah re-signed Jarron Collins to a three year, $7 million contract.
  54. Dallas: Kenny Satterfield 6-2/176 (Cincinnati-Sophomore)
He could have easily gone in the first few picks of the second round, and a few PGs that might not turn out to be as good as him got drafted before him. I think he will stick in the NBA, at least for a couple of years. Dallas traded the rights to 2nd round draft pick Kenny Satterfield to Denver for a future 2nd round pick or future considerations. Denver signed him to a contract.
  55. Sacramento: Maurice Jeffers 6-4/195 (St. Louis-Senior)
  56. San Antonio (from LA Lakers): Robertas Javtokas 6-10/200 (Lithuania)
  57. Philadelphia: Alvin Jones 6-11/265 (Georgia Tech-Senior)
Most people thought he would be a late first rounder or early second rounder. Maybe Philly could have taken him with one of their earlier picks huh? I'm not quite sure why he slipped this much as not more than a couple of weeks ago he was being favorably compared to Brendan Haywood. Philadelphia signed Jones to a 2 year, minimum contract with the 2nd year at the team's option.
  58. San Antonio: Bryan Bracey 6-7/210 (Oregon)
San Antonio signed him to a contract.
