LarryB's 2004 NBA Mock Draft

  1. Orlando: Emeka Okafor 6-10/250 (UConn)-junior
I don't think there should be much debate here.
  2. Charlotte (from LA Clippers): Dwight Howard 6-10/240 (SW Atlanta Christian Academy)-High School senior
For a while, a trade seemed to be likely, and then 3 days before the draft, Charlotte traded the #4 and #33 picks for the #2 pick. They also agreed to take Pedrag Drobnjak in the expansion draft. Howard is emerging as a safe and solid number two, and the Magic are even looking at him at one.
  3. Chicago: Luol Deng 6-8/220 (Duke)-freshman
The Bulls say Deng is their man, and why should I argue? They will take either Howard or Okafor if they are still around though. Ben Gordon really impressed them in his workout, but I doubt they tak him here.
  4. LA Clippers (from Charlotte): Ben Gordon 6-2/185 (UConn)-junior
The Clippers made the trade because they wanted a PG, and could get a good one farter down. Rumor has it they have settled on Gordon, and he has emerged as one of the best in predraft workouts. Other Possibilities: Shaun Livingston, Pavel Podkolzine and Andre Iguodala.
  5. Washington: Pavel Podkolzine 7-5/300 (Italy)
They would like to take a big man, but honestly, one isn't worth picking this early. This pick has been possibly traded to Dallas along with Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner for Antawn Jamison. Other Possibilities: Josh Childress, Shaun Livingston and Ben Gordon.
  6. Atlanta: Shaun Livingston 6-7/175 (Peioria Central HS-IL)-High School senior
The Hawks could go several different directions, but they should probably be either looking big or small, unless someone they really love falls into their lap. They want to move up to number two, but it looks less likely that this will happen. Livingston doesn't have anyone courting him high up in the lottery, so he could very well slip here. Other Possibilities: Andre Iguodala, Andris Biedrins and Devin Harris.
  7. Phoenix: Andre Iguodala 6-6/207 (Arizona)-sophomore
This pick has been rumored to be traded to Chicago and will be announced during the draft. If Phoenix keeps it they will have to possibly consider Devin Harris. Other Possibilities: Pavel Podkolzine, Andris Biedrins and Devin Harris.
  8. Toronto: Devin Harris 6-3/185 (Wisconsin)-junior
Totonto is looking at Podkolzine, who barely gets the edge over Biedrins, but Dallas probably moved up into the fifth pick to take him. That leaves them with a PG. Other Possibilities: Pavel Podkolzine, Ben Gordon and Andris Biedrins.
  9. Philadelphia: Josh Childress 6-8/205 (Stanford)-junior
Philly is in a position to try to help themselves quickly and add the best player that will be ready now. Maybe thats local boy Jameer Nelson too. Other Possibilities: Jameer Nelson, Josh Smith and Andris Biedrins.
  10. Cleveland: Jameer Nelson 6-0/193 (St. Joseph's)
It makes most sense that they will get a PG or C to cover the possible losses of McInnis and Ilgauskas. Jameer seems the most ready and best fit. Other Possibilities: Andris Biedrins, Josh Smith and Devin Harris.
  11. Golden State: Andris Biedrins 6-10/235 (Latvia)
I think that Biedrins might have been projected much higher, but as teams dissappear that are "sold" on him as their guy, and as the Podkolzine train moves up, he could slide. They would like to grab one of the top PGs, but probably won't have the chance, and will have to go for who helps their team the most. Their center situation could be a real mess. It looks like Josh could be slipping and the Warriors are looking hard at him, so if he's around, they might take him. Other Possibilities: Josh Smith, Jameer Nelson and Pavel Podkolzine.
  12. Seattle: Josh Smith 6-8/220 (Oak Hill Academy, Smyrna GA)-High School senior
Seattle might want to go for an international big man, but wouldn't pass up on a great prospect if they slipped. Other Possibilities: Rafael Araujo, Luke Jackson, Andris Biedrins.
  13. Portland: Luke Jackson 6-7/215 (Oregon)
Luke's stock is rising, and it looks like he could slip into the lottery. A lot of teams like him, and he could move up higher if a trade is made, too. The Blazers are high on him, so unless someone slides they will probably grab him. Other Possibilities: Kirk Snyder, Andris Biedrins and Josh Smith.
  14. Utah: Rafael Araujo 6-11/280 (BYU)
Araujo is on their big man short list along with Biedrins and Podkolzine. They might also be looking at Luke Jackson and Kirk Snyder, or if they move this pick one of those two might go here. Other Possibilities: Pavel Podkolzine, Andris Biedrins or Sergei Monya..
  15. Boston: Kirk Snyder 6-6/219 (Nevada)-junior
An explosive player who is moving up and is hot hot hot! The Celtics have been looking hard at Luke Jackson, but will have to move up to take him. Robert Swift is also on their short list, and rumor has it that he has a guarantee in the middle of the first round. Other Possibilities: Luke Jackson, Robert Swift and Rafael Araujo.
  16. Utah (from New York from Phoenix): Sergei Monya 6-8/220 (Russia)
They have been scouting him pretty heavily and looks like a lock with one of their two first round picks. Other Possibilities: Robert Swift, Kirk Snyder and Kris Humphries.
  17. Atlanta (from Milwaukee from Denver and Detroit): J.R. Smith 6-5/210 (St. Benedicts's-NJ)-High School senior
  18. New Orleans: Al Jefferson 6-8/260 (Prentiss High School-MS)-High School senior
  19. Miami: Peter John Ramos 7-3/300 (Puerto Rico)
  20. Denver: David Harrison 7-0/260 (Colorado)-junior
  21. Utah (from Houston): Kris Humphries 6-8/240 (Minnesota)-freshman
  22. New Jersey: Sebastian Telfair 6-0/160 (Lincoln HS-NY)-High School senior
This pick has been traded to Portland, but can't be announced until after the first round of the draft.
  23. Portland (from Memphis): Dorrell Wright 6-7/215 (South Kent School-CT)-High School senior
  24. Boston (from Dallas): Robert Swift 7-0/245 (Bakersfield HS)-High School senior
  25. Boston (from Detroit): Aleksander Vujacic 6-7/193 (Italy)
  26. Sacramento: Victor Khryapa 6-9/230 (Russia)
  27. LA Lakers: Beno Udrih 6-4/203 (Slovenia)
  28. San Antonio: Anderson Varejao 6-10/235 (Brazil)
  29. Indiana : Ha Seung-jin 7-3/300 (South Korea)
