The T-Wolves traded Ray Allen to the
Bucks, along with Andrew Lang, for Stephon
Marbury in a draft day deal. The Bucks were then able to sign
Allen to a 3 year, 5.13 million dollar contract. He began the season as
the starting shooting guard, keeping second year flop Shawn Respert on the
bench, eventually leading to the Bucks trading him away. Ray, the 1996
Big East Player of the Year, left UCONN after his junior year as the third
leading scorer in Huskies history with 1,922 points and was a consensus
All-America First Team selection by the AP, UPI, TSN and USBWA as a
junior. As a sophomore, he was an AP and NABC Third Team All-American.
Ray joined Iverson on the Big East Rookie First Team. He was also named
the 1995-96 Player of the Year by UPI. If you haven't already noticed,
Ray's one of my favorites from this rookie class and one of my picks for
long term success in the NBA. He has proven he can play above the rim,
making many a highlight film and competing in the 1997 Slam Dunk Competition. At 6-5/205, he's built to play the 2 guard in the NBA. He can also shoot from outside, winning the 2001 Three Point Conquest at the All-Star Game. Allen was named to the 2000 USA
Olympics Basketball team. On February 10, 1999 Ray negotiated
a contract extension for himself...without an agent...for 6 years at $70.9
million dollars. Ray has also been selected to be on the All-Interview
Second Team in 2000 and followed that up by being named to the
All-Interview First Team in 2001, 2002 and 2004. After leading the
Bucks in a breakout
season in 2000-2001, Ray was named to the All-NBA Third Team. His first
All-NBA selection of his career. In 2005 he was named to the All-NBA Second Team. Ray recorded his first triple-double of
his career with 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds at Boston on
2/7/01. Allen was born on 7/20/75. He is a five time All-Star including
2004 and 2005 for the Sonics. On February 20, 2002, Seattle trade Gary Payton, along with Desmond
Mason to Milwaukee for Ray Allen, Kevin Ollie, Ronald Murray and a conditional
first round pick. On August 3, 2005 Seattle re-signed Ray Allen to a 5 year, $80 million contract.
