Baker was the best player to ever come out of Hartford,
holding school records in scoring and blocks and finishing second on the
all-time rebounding list. As a senior he was an Honorable Mention
All-American after having the fourth best scoring average in the nation
(28.3). Vin Baker joined Penny as the first
players from this 1993 draft class to achieve the distinction of being an
all-star. He's played in four consecutive games (1995-1998), three with
the Bucks and one with Seattle. Chris Webber joined these other talented
draftees as an All-Star in 1997. This 6-11 big man was underrated in the
draft, slipping to number eight. He was a member of the 1994 NBA
All-Rookie Team and was the NBA Rookie of the month for February (1994).
He soon became the best Buck, and one of the best Milwaukee players
in recent years. After his third season, he was already in the top ten on
the Bucks' all-time lists in rebounds. He had the Bucks first
40+ point game since Ricky Pierce in 1989 when he scored 41 against the
Blazers in 1996.
Vin was finally recognized with All-NBA honors in 1997,
being named to the Third Team. In 1998 he was on the All-NBA Second
Team. On September 25, 1997 Seattle traded Shawn Kemp; Milwaukee traded
Vin Baker and Sherman Douglas; and Cleveland traded Terrell Brandon,
Tyrone Hill, and a 1998 1st round draft pick (top 10 protected). Seattle
received Baker; Milwaukee received Brandon, Hill, and
the draft pick; and Cleveland received Kemp and Douglas. He is currently
under a 10 year contract, but signed a seven year extension worth 86.7
million dollars. Vin was named to the 2000 USA Men's Olympic Basketball
Team. On July 20, 2002 Boston traded Kenny Anderson, Vitaly Potapenko,
and Joseph Forte to
Seattle for Vin Baker and Shammond Williams. On August 18, 2004, New York signed Baker to a one year deal worth 3.5 million dollars. On February 24, 2005 Houston traded Maurice Taylor to New York for Moochie Norris, Vin Baker, and a 2006 2nd round draft pick. Prior to the 2005-2006 season, Boston released Vin using the amnesty clause where they have to pay his salary, but it doesn't count against the cap. Baker got released again by Houston, later that same off season. Minnesota signed Baker prior to the 2006-2007 season, bringing him into training camp.
