Cliff Robinson

Cliff Robinson

(Picture of Uncle Cliffy)Uncle Cliffy is the headbanded hero in Portland who won the 1993 sixth man award, but soon moved into the starting lineup. Cliff is a versatile player who can play all of the front court positions. In 1995 he added the 3 pointer to his arsenal of weapons, competing in the 1996 3-Point Shootout on all-star Saturday. He finished his college carer as UConn's fourth all-time leading scorer with 1,664 points. He has good hands for a big man, being able to help on the full-court press and picking up a respectable amount of steals. Robinson was always a steady performer for the Blazers. In fact, he opened his career with a Blazer record 461 consecutive games played. Even in his rookie season he was the most reliable bench player with the best scoring average. Robinson was the Blazers' leading scorer in 1995-96, but did not have a good year in 1996-97. He has played in one all-star game, coming off the bench in 1994. In 1997, he signed a one year, one million dollar deal with the Phoenix Suns after the Blazers failed to re-sign him, renouncing his rights to sign young big man Brian Grant. Cliff was the Suns second leading scorer that year, and they re-signed him to a one year contract worth 3.5 million dollars on 1-25-99. They then gave him a four year deal worth 29 million dollars on August 1, 1999. He was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2000 and again in 2002. On July 18, 2001 Phoenix traded Clifford Robinson to Detroit for Jud Buechler and John Wallace. On August 21, 2003, Detroit traded Clifford Robinson and Pepe Sanchez to Golden State for Bob Sura. On February 14, 2005, Golden State traded Clifford Robinson to New Jersey for a second round draft pick in 2005 and a second round draft pick in 2007. New Jersey re-signed him to play in 2005-2006. On August 11, 2006 New Jersey re-signed Clifford Robinson to a two year, $3.5 million contract with the second year at the team's option.
