Anfernee Hardaway

Anfernee Hardaway could be the most exciting player in the game today, and a player in the tradition of Dr. J, Michael Jordan and Clyde Drexler. Penny's an all-around athlete that can excite the crowds and help his team win games. This superstar brings an excitement to the game. He has already become the go to guy in the clutch, especially now with Shaq gone. He started the all-star game for the east for 4 years running (1995-98) in only five seasons. His 1997-98 season was injury plagued, but the fans still wanted to see him over the other Hardaway, Tim. Prior to starting in the big boys AS Game, he played in the Schick Rookie game, being named MVP in its inaugural year. After an injury plagued year, Penny was also elected to start the game in 1997 receiving 1,132,024 votes. He was drafted after his junior season by Golden State, then traded to Orlando in a package involving Webber and draft picks. Orlando won this round of deals. He was named the 1990 Parade Magazine High School Player of the Year and hasn't looked back since. At Memphis he was a Unanimous first team All-American in 1993. He was runner up to Chris Webber for ROY, only six votes shy. He was also a member of the All-Rookie First Team. In his second season he was named to the All-NBA First Team in 1995, and again in 1996. He followed that up in 1997 with a third team selection after an injury slowed him down. Penny spent his 1996 summer vacation with Dream Team III. On August 5, 1999, Orlando signed Penny to a 7 year, $86,675,000 contract, then immediately traded him to the Phoenix Suns for Danny Manning, Pat Garrity, and 2 first round draft picks. Due to injuries, he has yet to make an impact in Phoenix. On January 5, 2004, the Knicks acquired guards Stephon Marbury and Penny Hardaway and center Cezary Trybanski from the Suns for forwards Antonio McDyess and Maciej Lampe, guards Howard Eisley and Charlie Ward, the rights to guard Milos Vujanic, a first-round pick in 2004 and a conditional first-round pick. On February 22, 2006 Orlando traded Steve Francis to New York for Anfernee Hardaway and Trevor Ariza. Hardaway was later released. On August 9, 2007 Miami signed Penny to a one year minimum contract.
