Arvydas
Sabonis was first drafted in the fourth round of the 1985 draft
at pick #77 by Atlanta. League officials later disallowed the
pick, determining he was too young. Portland picked him the
next year with the 24th. pick. He finally joined the team in
1995. A rookie who is already a veteran of many years playing
in Europe, could still have some superstar years left playing
for the Trail Blazers. Arvydas was a member of the All-Rookie First Team
in 1996 at the age of 31. (Take a look at how he measured up with
other 1995 Rookies) Sabonis' Lithuanian Team won
the Bronze Medal in the 1996 Olympics, beating the Australian team. He
is a smart passer and has inside moves that rivalled Olajuwon and Ewing
in his prime. He signed a 3 year contract to stay in Portland on 1-21-99
worth 30.4 million dollars. Sabonis came back for one year after retiring following the 2000-01 season. He played for one year, and then retired at the end of the 2002-2003 season.
