Rasheed
Wallace was Jerry Stackhouse's talented Sophomore teammate at UNC. He was
a second team AP All-American in 1995 and regarded as the second most
talented big man in this draft group, after Joe Smith. He was picked up
by the Bullets with the fourth pick and played an integral part on their
team. After the end of his rookie year, Rasheed was traded in a package
deal to Portland for Rod Strickland and Harvey Grant. There, Wallace
stepped right into the starting lineup and became a valuable contributor
on the team. He has already scored a career high 38 points against
Sacramento on 12/21/96. Rasheed was named to the NBA All-Rookie second
team. He made 1,493,000 as a rookie, but is going to make considerably
more after signing a contract worth 80 million over six years starting in
1998. Rasheed finally came into his own, looking like an All-Star on a
team of all-stars for the 1999-2000 Blazers. On February 8, 2004 Atlanta traded Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Theo Ratliff, and Dan Dickau
to Portland for Rasheed Wallace and Wesley Person. Wallace only played one game for the Hawks, but scored over 20 points for them. That put him in rare company as only one of a handful of players to ever score 20 for three teams in one year, and was the only player ever to score 20 points in his only game for a team. On February 19, 2004, in a 3 team trade, Atlanta traded away Rasheed Wallace and received
Zeljko Rebraca, Bob Sura, Chris Mills, and Milwaukee's 2004 1st round
draft pick (lottery protected); Detroit traded away Zeljko Rebraca, Bob Sura,
Lindsey Hunter, Chucky Atkins, their 1st 2004 round draft pick,
Milwaukee's 2004 1st round draft pick, and
$3,000,000; and received Rasheed Wallace and Mike James; and Boston traded away
Mike James and Chris Mills and received Chucky Atkins, Lindsey Hunter,
Detroit's 2004 1st round draft pick, and $3,000,000. On July 22, 2004, Detroit re-signed Wallace to a five year deal woth 57 million dollars.
