Caramel Oatmeal Bars 3
32 light caramel squares
5 tablespoon evaporated milk
1 cup flour
1 cup quick rolled oats
1/2 tsp. soda
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 cup chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Melt together in a double boiler the caramel squares and the evaporated milk. Cool only slightly. Set aside. Mix together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, salt and butter or margarine. Press 1/2 of this mixture into a 7 x 11-inch pan or a 9-inch square pan. Bake 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Remove from oven and spread caramel mixture over all. Sprinkle immediately with the chocolate chips and the chopped nuts. Over this, sprinkle remaining crumb half of this mixture. Return to oven and bake 15 to 20 minute at 350 degrees or until brown. Chill 2 hours. Cut into squares or bars. Refrigerate extras.
