Low Fat Oatmeal Nut Bars


1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cup applesauce
2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup walnuts
1/8 tsp salt

Topping:
3/4 cup fat free caramel topping
3 tablespoon wheat flour

Preheat oven to 350. Coat a 13 x 9" pan with cooking spray. Combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda and salt. Add applesauce, stir with fork or fingertips until evenly moist and crumbly. Reserve one cup for topping. Press the remaining mixture evenly onto the bottom of the pan. Bake 15 to 20 minutes, until slightly brown. Cool 10 minutes.

For toppings, mix caramel and flour. Spread over bars. Sprinkle with reserved crumbs and chopped walnuts. Return to the oven and cook for 15 minutes or until edges are a golden brown. Cool.

Makes 32 bars.
