Autumn Bread


1/3 cup shortening
3 cups sugar
4 eggs, well beaten
1 3/4 cups pumpkin
2/3 cup water
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
chopped nuts, if desired

Combine shortening and sugar, melt and blend well. Add all other ingredients EXCEPT water and flour. Mix together. Pour into mixing bowl and slowly add flour and water, alternating each time. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour in greased loaf pan. Let cool 10 minutes. Remove from pan and glaze. Combine 1 tsp. cinnamon and 2 tablespoon and 2 tablespoon margarine. Melt and mix well to form glaze.
