Nancy Reagan's Monkey Bread

1 pkg active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm milk
2 eggs
3 Tablespoons sugar
1 Tablespoon salt
3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup milk
3/4 cup butter + 1/2 cup butter, melted
1 egg, beaten

Sprinkle yeast over milk. Beat in eggs and then mix in sugar, salt, flour and milk Blend thoroughly. Cut in 3/4 cup butter. Knead well. Place in a large greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Place in a warm area, out of drafts, and allow to double in bulk. Punch down dough, knead for 1 minute and allow to rise the second time, about 40 minutes.

Roll dough out on a floured board and form into a log. Cut into quarters; then cut each quarter into 7 pieces (28 pieces in all) Roll pieces in 1/2 cup melted butter. Butter and flour 2 9-inch ring molds. arrange 7 balls of dough evenly in each mold. Cover each with 7 remaining balls of dough. Cover with plastic wrap and all to rise. Brush tops with beaten egg. Bake in a 375-degree oven for 25 minutes or until browned.

NOTE: For something special, while you're putting each piece in the butter fry up some onions in that butter and add the onions as well in between the balls on the layers. This is a wonderful treat.
