Matrimonial Cake


1 cup brown sugar
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups flour
1 TSP salt
1 TSP baking soda
1 LB dates (cooked)

To cook dates place in saucepan and cover with water. Cook over medium heat until boiled down to a paste. Mix all but dates together well. Layer 1/2 of mixture in bottom of square cake pan. Layer dates over mixture. Layer remaining mixture over dates. Bake in oven at 350o F for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
