Easy Gingerbread


1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup brown sugar packed
1 teaspoon soda
1-1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 egg, beaten
1-1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup cold tea

Sift together flour, soda and spices. Cream shortening and brown sugar until well mixed. Beat in egg and molasses. Add alternately to cream mixture the tea and flour. Mix well. Pour batter into 9-inch square pan. Bake in 350 degrees F. oven for 30 minutes. Serve hot with whipped cream, ice cream or applesauce.

Makes 6 servings
