Molasses Hermits


2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. mace
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs

Sift, then measure flour; resift with salt, baking soda, baking powder and spices. Stir in raisins and nuts. Preheat oven to 350 deg. F. Cream butter and sugar until light. Blend in molasses. Add well beaten eggs. Stir in flour mixture. Spread mixture in greased twelve by eight-inch utility pan. Bake 30 to 35 minutes. Cool in pan. Cut into small squares.
