Strawberry Tamales

(see also Custard Sauce)

1 cup sugar
2 cups masa
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 cup water
1 cup condensed milk
1/4 cup oil
1 package frozen strawberries
1 basket fresh strawberries
1 package cornhusks

In large bowl mix sugar, masa, baking powder and salt. When well blended add condensed milk and oil. Add water 1/4 cup at a time, being careful not to get batter to runny. Stir in frozen strawberries. Spread on cornhusks, place one or two fresh berries in center and roll up. Place on steam rack in large pot and steam about 20 minutes or until done. Top with custard sauce (leaving out nutmeg) or whipped cream.
