Apple Muffins


1/4 cup shortening
1 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 egg beaten
1/3 teaspoon salt
2 cups flour
1 cup milk
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup chopped, raw apples

Cream shortening and sugar, add beaten egg. Sift dry ingredients together and add to first mixture, along with milk. Fold in apples last. Pour batter into greased muffin pans, filling pans only half full. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar while hot, if desired.

Yield: 12 muffins.
