Star Finch
Neochmia ruficauda

12cm (5in), 11-16g (½oz) Australian grassfinch. Active, lively, and often found in the aviary greenery. Males sing. Keep two or more. Compatible with other peaceful finches.

They are olive green and yellow, with a red face mask and matching tail. Hens are similar, but not as brightly coloured and usually with a smaller face mask. There are two mutations, yellow-face and pastel. We have three pairs, including normals and both mutations.

Bengalese Mannikin or Society Finch
Lonchura domestica

12cm (5in), 15-18g (½-¾oz) domestic Asian munia. Moderately active, acrobatic, explore all regions of the aviary. Males sing. Keep two or more. Compatible with other peaceful finches, but may take over nests from other pairs. Special needs: Require a sleeping nest.

They are brown with lacing, often pied, and can be crested. Sexes look alike. Mutations in our charm of seven include chestnut, fawn, pied & crested.

Red-Cheeked Cordon Bleu Waxbill
Uraeginthus bengalus

12cm (5in), 8-11g (¼-½oz) African waxbill. Active, always busy, all regions of the aviary. Males sing a beautiful melody, especially when courting a hen. When breeding, keep only one pair of cordon bleus in each enclosure. Very compatible with peaceful birds of unrelated species. Special needs: Live food is essential for nestlings.

Sky blue and brown. Males have red cheek patches. We have three pairs.

Senegal (Red-billed) Fire Finch
Lagonostica senegala

9-10cm (3½-4in), 7-9g (¼oz) African waxbill. Very active and lively, often found in middle to lower region of aviary. Very quiet. Keep one pair, or more given enough space and greenery. Compatible with other peaceful finches. Special needs: Live food is essential for nestlings.

Males are crimson red with brown wings; hens are brown with red eye stripes & tails. We have two pairs.

Forbes (Tricoloured) Parrot Finch
Erythrura tricolor

10cm (4in), 11g (¼-½oz) Indonesian grassfinch. Very active and lively, provided space is sufficient. Males sing. Keep one pair, or more given enough space and greenery. Compatible with other peaceful finches. Special needs: Limit live food to prevent obesity.

Blue head & front, green back & wings, red rump & tail. Males have a deeper blue face.
