Feel the Magic: XY/XX
Feel the Magic is one of those games that feel like it ripped Wario Ware, but in the end you realize it deserves its own merits. It was one of those games that really make you laugh, stop and realize how hard it actually is for the developers to think of such bizarre concepts. The game is a genius.
The visual style of XY/XX is so unique, that it will seem familiar. The graphics take a cue from Apple's iPod silhouette advertisements. It felt oh so refreshing to see a game that didn't look use regular old generic polygon style to present the game.
Audio-wise, the voiceovers are hilarious. The way the girl semi-moans "break time" will make you want to opt for some earbuds or turn the volume off. I found myself popping this game on the subway until I got beat it. Getting peeks over my shoulder at what in the world I was doing with the touch screen was worth it. Many people were interested and their eyes were glued to my DS.
XY/XX has you blowing at the microphone and it does make you seem very ridiculous. I feel the game really does a good job at utilizing the touchscreen and the mic in very clever ways.
Unfortunately, finding the game is one of those hard parts. Another one of the DS's first wave of games. Even if the game is very old, it is really worth tracking down. I'm readying myself to play the sequel "The Rub Rabbits" and I'm ecstatic. A review on that to come.
Sega did a wonderful job. XY/XX may feel a little short, but it has great replay value. Try plowing through the mini-games for a second and third round and you will still feel how crispy new it all feels.
Final Rating: 8.5/10
