Mona gives birth to Morrigan at Fontevrault. Morrigan possesses memories from many minds: Michael’s, Mona’s, Lasher’s, and even receives images of ceremonies of Stonehenge. Morrigan immediately takes to the computer to learn about her new status as a Mayfair. When Mona tells her she is the legacy designee and gives her the Mayfair emerald she sets about ensuring that everything required be done towards this end. Then she designates funds for the restoration of Fontevrault, he birthplace, and insists on returning to First Street. She is afraid of Michael and Rowan, but feels she must find out what they will do with her. (TS 312, 367-371, 403-409)
When they arrive, Morrigan smells the scent of another Taltos on them, because they have just returned from Ashlar’s home in New York. Morrigan demands to know where he is, but they tell her she must allow them to disclose this when they feel the time is right. Furthermore, if she wants the family’s nurture and acceptance, then she must submit to their discipline. She reluctantly agrees, but when Ashlar’s gifts arrive for Rowan and Michael, she becomes extremely agitated. Ashlar himself arrives shortly thereafter, and when Morrigan sees him, she goes straight to him and they embrace. For him, she is the dawn of a new day after a very long and bitter night. They decide to go to Donnelaith together to complete the birth ritual. (TS 466-467)
