J.T Goshburn might soon move BrewCrew to Brooklyn
There have been rumors from a few sources that J.T Goshburn, owner of the Milwaukee Brewers and a New Yorker, might soon move the team to Brooklyn. Goshburn did not confirm or deny the rumors. This news was broken first by the New York Post, and later was confirmed by New York Newsday. Milwaukee Times also confirms this rumor. "The team definitley needs to be moved, with low attendance and a horrible club over the years, this franchise needs some new scenery. I really don't give a shit if they move the team, I don't watch the Brewers anymore and if they move, I will support some Chicago team." an EX-Brewer fan said.
Pines Felled By Twins, Up For Sale Only minutes after the Carolina Pines were knocked out of the 2006 XSBL playoff by the Minnesota Twins, owner Sandy Hemenway announced the team was up for sale. "I have truly enjoyed my time as owner of the Pines, but I have many other interests outside of baseball that are time intensive. I put my heart and soul into turning the franchise, (formerly the Tampa Devil Rays), around and I believe our first trip to the post-season is evidence I have succeeded. Unfortunately, my other interests would not allow me to continue putting the time and effort into this team necessary to keep them contenders in the future. The fans deserve an owner that can, and I am confident one can be found." Though Carolina had an operating loss of around 5 million for 2006, much of the loss was due to the 20 million salary the Pines swallowed to acquire ace Joel Pineiro. They have since re-signed him to a 4-year $34 million deal (8.5 per year). In fact, the Pines are looking at a 2007 payroll of under $53 million at the moment, (compared to $64 million in 2006), with only a couple of holes yet to fill. The Tampa franchise that Hemenway purchased was 15 million in debt and fan interest was in single digits, severely depressing the value of the team and allowing Hemenway to purchase it at a bargain basement price. With a playoff birth and fan interest of 50, and about 2 million cash (even after the 2006 operating loss), it's likely Hemenway will make a significant profit when the team sells. Though he would not go into details, there are rumors that Hemenway is turning his interest to the recording industry, where he may be starting his own label and/or on-line music clearing house. |
